Woori The Virgin Opening Week Highlights
Clearly introducing the picture of what’s in store in the series in its first outing, the latest series from SBS would appeal to rom-com lovers.
Woori’s Chastity Vow
Raised by her grandmother and mother, Woori is a filial woman obedient to her family. When her grandmother pushed for her to vow a chastity allegiance, she kept it firmly.
Fortunately, her steady boyfriend understands her belief as he truly loves her with all his heart.
Working as a makjang writer, Woori has a typical happy and content life. However, life has a way of throwing surprises.
An Unexpected Pregnancy
Just when Woori contemplates marriage, her boyfriend Kang-jae, a hardworking detective, halted her intention as he wants to do the proposing.
At an event hosted by the company sponsoring the drama she’s currently working on, Woori faints and was rushed to the hospital.
When the doctor congratulated her on being pregnant, she together with Kang-jae and her mother laughed.
Seeking advice from her own Gynecologist, she learned that she was indeed pregnant. It turns out that she accidentally got an artificial insemination shot.
Woori’s Baby’s Daddy
Apparently, Raphael, the CEO of the company sponsoring her drama, is the father of Woori’s baby. After getting a second lease on life, his main goal is to divorce his wife, Ma-ri.
Through her mother’s instructions, Ma-ri went to the same clinic Woori went to on the same day to get artificial insemination using her husband’s pricey sperm.
The doctor belatedly realizes her error and is left no choice but to confront the wrath and disappointment of the people involved.
Kang-jae’s Marriage Proposal
Proceeding with his intention to bring up marriage, Kang-jae made a sweet wedding proposal. But the sweetness fades away easily when Woori affirmed that she’s indeed pregnant.
They decide not to keep the baby and Kang-jae promises to be by her side. But Ma-ri who is keen to keep her husband connives with the clinic for the planned abortion not to proceed.
She also reveals it to Raphael’s father for serious backing. Meanwhile, Woori is also torn about keeping the baby or not. CEO Raphael on the other hand understands her predicament and allows her to decide what she wants to do.
Woori Keeps The Baby
On the day, Woori goes to the clinic with her family and boyfriend to terminate the pregnancy, she was again asked by Raphael’s father to reconsider.
Defended by her mother, she proceeds to her initial decision. However, at the last minute, Woori had a change of heart and left the clinic.
When she arrived home, she declares wanting to keep the child. Her emotions also burst as she finally unpacked her long-hidden frustration of causing her mom’s shattered dreams.
Forgiving each other, they both unloaded how they are each other’s precious happiness in life. Later, Kang-jae also agrees to support Woori’s decision. She calls Raphael for them to talk personally.
The next day, they go to the hospital and see an unsightly wounded man whom Kang-jae has been tracking on. Woori faints from the shock and was thankfully supported by Raphael as Kang-jae checks on the fatally wounded man.
Woori The Virgin Opening Week Musings
The characters, the story and the foreseen conflicts had all been presented in the premiere week of Woori The Virgin. Inescapably, at the center of the narrative is Woori – and her journey to accidental motherhood.
Admirably, the introduction to her character helped a lot in resonating with her predicament. For now, the story left ample room for how the story will expand.
In the case of Woori, her challenges with a possible love triangle, pregnancy and people with ill intentions are what most likely would drive the series. The mother-daughter pair looks surely villainous so she and her team should up their guard.
Adding to that, a change in her family setup is expected to arise, now that her birth father knows of hers and her mom’s existence. It is also faintly highlighted that Woori and Raphael shared a fleeting encounter in the past.
With Raphael packaged to be searching for his one true love, and Kang-jae being a poster boy of an ideal boyfriend so far, it looks like Woori has a lot to process in the story.
Sporting endearing romance and comedy, the latest series from SBS is easy to digest and with dominant women-empowering messages so far.
Woori The Virgin airs on SBS every Monday and Tuesday. International fans can watch it on Viu.
