Sisyphus: The Myth Episodes 7 & 8 Key Moments

Operation Rescue Tae-sul

Seo-hae woke up at Sun’s house and begins planning to reunite with Han Tae-sul.

Foreseeing her plight would affect Sun’s family, she seeks Asia Mart broker peeps to negotiate. In return of providing the key to the safe box, she asks the boss to have a way for Sun’s family to leave the country.

They were also able to help Tae-sul escape by sending the EMP to his house through teleportation. That explains how the EMP appeared at the right moment when Tae-sul was escaping Seo-jin’s attempt to mess up his head with drugs.

Seo-hae has deduced that Tae-san has the blueprint in his possession before she confidently stroke a deal with Mr. Park (Sung Dong Il). True to what she perceived, after escaping and bringing the key at Asia Mart’s hideout, only a letter from Tae-san can be found inside the box.

Tae-san’s Letter

Confirming Seo-hae’s deduction of Tae-san’s ultimate goal to protect Tae-sul, he assured his brother that he is doing fine. Hoping they would meet again someday, he urged him to make the best choice. Tae-sul also realized that his brother is looking for the identity of Sigma.

Obviously, Mr. Park is unhappy that the uploader blueprint is not in the safe box. Pointing guns on Tae-sul and Seo-hae, they reach an impasse because Seo-hae called the Control Bureau for back-up plan to their situation.

Left with no choice, Mr. Park made Bingbing promise not to turn off the downloader and proceeds to presenting himself to the Control Bureau.

Tae-sul Confronts Chairman Kim About Sigma

With fearless Seo-hae backing him up as stand-by sniper, Tae-sul sneaks in to Chairman Kim’s room for interrogation coupled with unfazed threats of taking all the things that matter to him.

Providing information about Sigma, Chairman Kim confessed being pushed to the edge because of her wife’s medical condition. Next, Tae-sul heads to a live press conference hosted by Eddy Kim announcing his taking over of the leadership of Quantum & Time.

His announcement gets interrupted when Tae-sul arrived. Taking the opportunity, he sends a message to his brother through the live broadcast that they will meet again so he had to stay safe. He also taunts Sigma to stay out of hiding, but changes his mind and beams while declaring he will be finding where he is.

At a cryptic place with bunch of screen monitors, the person called Sigma gives a creepy laugh staring at Tae-sul’s face. Meanwhile, unable to bear the guilt and pressure, Chairman Kim opts to end his life.

The Man Called Sigma

Episode 8 revealed the man Tae-san saw at the railway holding a photo of him and his brother to be the villain orchestrating the atrocities behind the scene at present time.

Amassing money through his knowledge from the future, he went on winning streaks in the lottery, horse race bets, and playing stocks and shares. He took the name Sigma (Kim Byung Cheol) and he was the man who approached Chairman Kim in preparation of his grand plan related to Tae-sul.

Using the medicine Chairman Kim’s wife needs as a leverage, Sigma orders him to invest on Han Tae-sul using his money. He also acquired the former bank employee Kim Dong-hyun who assisted him with his investment as his right hand man. Finding out Sigma’s real intention, Dong-hyun failed to warn Tae-sul as he was hit by a raging car, most likely under Sigma’s command.

From the knowledge they got from Dong-hyun’s wife about Sigma, Tae-sul was able to locate his hideout. However, they failed to apprehend him and caused Seo-hae to be wounded.

What has transpired since Sisyphus: The Myth Opening Week?

Evidently, Tae-sul and Seo-hae’s journey in preventing a looming war that will destroy the world sum up the first half of Sisyphus: The Myth. Our heroes are getting their firepower with their skills and smarts. Waging war with a few group of villains seem a herculean task. This definitely hooks as an underdog story worth tuning to.

Sisyphus: The Myth Mid-Series Peak Points & Musings

I love the sneaky and smart variables revealed as the story progresses in Sisyphus: The Myth. Having time travelers is already a delightful element in the series, pushing teleportation to help the main leads would really make any follower of this drama smile. It does not soak the baffling scenes and the story is always ready to explain cryptic scenarios to avoid confusion.

In a way it is friendly to the readers without downplaying the intensity and enthralling appeal of the plot. Notably, the narrative makes sure to introduce the characters without rush and with the intention to settle them in how the story proceeds. Given its tricky timeline-shifting premise, it ensures clear storytelling by putting a spotlight on the characters’ motivations, connections and possible end games.

Kim Byung Cheol had so far scored traumatizing drama antagonists, with the way he rarely smiles in this series, our virtual prayers to Tae-sul and Seo-hae might be needed.

Park Shin Hye paraded quite explosive fight scenes in this week’s episode and I’m really loving the packaging of her character in this series. As always her life in the future drew wholehearted attention with how she bravely overcomes farfetched battles at one point – then vulnerably taps on her emotions as a woman helpless to her seemingly hopeless situation in the next second.

Seo-hae’s crying moment after evading her chasers when she stole the antibiotic for her father was poignantly captured. Her emotionally and physically exhausted being was enveloped with a desperate yearning to survive for her parents.

Quite a few loose ends are still waiting to be concluded in the series. The good thing about this drama is how it knows the unclear scenes that audience would question and the narrative would answer it eventually.

What We Hope To Be Answered Soon…

Seo-hae’s future scene of discovering her tomb warrants answers to the instructions she left on her diary. It’s quite baffling because the picture suggested she was married to Tae-sul. Supporting that are Tae-san’s pictures of them together.

Vision fragments also unveiled Sigma shooting them. If she survived because she should – since the whole premise is of her coming from the future, wouldn’t it mean that it’s not the first time she time-traveled? If so, what about her father’s firm instruction in the first episode?

This bewildering part of the series really requires convincing answer that I hope would be conveyed as soon as possible. Aside from that, I’m also perplex why the Control Bureau and Mr. Park are not a bit concerned to the looming war since most likely they know about it.

It’s a plot inconsistency I’ve been asking since day 1. I would be worried of an armageddon news even if its a rumor. Their knowledge of the future should protect Tae-sul. So, I’m curious why their direction swerves to a passive way.

Where the Story Heads To?

Sisyphus: The Myth fascinates with its utilization of time element by adding drama to situations focusing to the characters from the future. Now that Sigma is out in the open, Seo-hae and Tae-sul are bound to stop him so they can stop the war from happening.

With a month to the supposed war breakout, we only have eight episodes left, and I can only imagine the sprint to the finale.

The Control Bureau has marked Seo-hae as their target and might use her as a bargaining chip for Tae-sul. What would push Tae-sul to create the uploader is still a mystery since Sigma’s moves are unpredictable.

Another sporadic character is Tae-san hyung, I hope Tae-sul’s message reached him so he can just reunite with his brother who needs a lot of manpower facing an impossible quest.

Don’t miss the exciting story of Sisyphus: The Myth every Wednesday and Thursday on JTBC and Netflix.
