Crime, cars, and racing, Hit-and-Run Squad pursues justice with a team that has a flawed background.
After failing to obtain evidence for the bribing of the police commissioners, Lt. Eun Shi-yeon (Gong Hyo Jin) is transferred to a hit-and-run task force unit at a police station. There, she meets Seo Min-jae (Ryu Jun Yeol) and Captain Woo Sun-yeong (Jeon Hye Jin) who work at a ragged workplace. Despite being transferred, Shi-yeon still investigates the CEO of JC Motors, Jung Jae-chul (Jo Jung Suk), who is involved with bribing various officials.
The hit-and-run task force has also a case that involves Jung Jae-chul, and Min-jae bravely meets him at an event. With the help of his adoptive father, Mr. Seo (Lee Sung Min), Min-jae gathers leads from the incident he is investigating. Min-jae shares how his adoptive father motivated him to become part of the police force after Shi-yeon discovered his past.
Choi Kyung-joon spills details about JC Motors, including the bribery of Jae-chul to the police commissioner. In a racing event, Prosecutor Ki (Son Sok Ku) covers himself with a helmet, and competes against Jung Jae-chul. Shi-yeon successfully finds “Buster”, the car with the dashcam they need, and also the car involved in the incident their unit is investigating.
A Chase with Different Motives
Jae-chul realizes the set-up, and chases for Buster being driven by Shi-yeon. Jae-chul’s car crashes on the emergency vehicle, and Mr. Seo dies on it as it explodes. Witnessing that event, Min-jae’s anger is awakened, and he beats up Jae-chul.
Through that set-up, the police commissioner is punished for his misdeeds, but Jae-chul easily breaks free from a long sentence in jail. Realizing Major Yoon Ji-hyeon’s (Yeom Jung Ah) real motives, Shi-yeon turns her back on her, and works fully under Captain Woo’s guidance. Yoon Ji-hyeon protects Jae-chul from being caught, but Shi-yeon and Min-jae are eager to catch him. At the end, Shi-yeon works for a special task force, and she recruits Min-jae who is transferred to a rural unit.

Movie Rating:
Hit-and-Run Squad movie Peak Points
Powerful Cast Performance
In this movie, the acting of all the cast members are outstanding as they portrayed their characters well. Jo Jung Suk’s stuttering and arrogant attitude topped Jung Jae-chul’s character. Ryu Jun Yeol plays as Seo Min-jae who is softhearted, and he has clearly drawn the line when he was acting as Kim Min-jae who is rough. The combination of three powerful women: Gong Hyo Jin, Jeon Hye Jin, and Yeom Jung Ah, radiates their characters’ energy as devoted women in the workplace.
Lee Sung Min, Key, and other supporting characters’ performances are also commendable given their chemistry with the rest of the cast. Kim Go Eun’s guest appearance at the end of the movie has also been consistent with the excellent performance with the rest of the cast at the beginning.
Tenacious Women in the Workplace
Women characters in the police force have shown that women can also lead in high positions. Yeom Jung Ah as Major Yoon has been a brave officer in the beginning, and it is disappointing how she becomes a rotten member of the force at the end. Her drive for promotion and achievement is noteworthy, but her methods are dishonorable.
Eun Shi-yeon and Woo Sun-yeong are consistent with their passion in catching the culprit who is guilty. They are role models throughout the movie. These women are unstoppable with their drive and devotion to their positions.
Min-jae’s Story of Conversion
In the past, Min-jae used to be part of a group of bikers, and he delivered drugs. However, at present he has overcome his flaws from the past through his adoptive father’s trust in him. Wearing glasses at present, Min-jae exudes a soft aura, and you’ll least suspect him of having a flawed past.
His unclean past does not block his way to becoming a righteous citizen at present. He may be reminded by his past self, but he still chooses to do good.
Hit-and-Run Squad movie Musings
The movie is two hours long, and the cast’s performance is excellent which makes the movie entertaining. In addition to that, the movie has showcased various luxurious cars and racing scenes, so it may be eye-catching to car enthusiasts.
Throughout the story, viewers can pick up learnings about the internal inconsistencies in large organizations. Being an organization that serves justice, it is disappointing how there’s a disparity in the instructions inside the police force. Due to the greed for a higher position, many are blinded into protecting real suspects of crime.
Major Yoon, who has become tolerant of Jung Jae-chul, destroys her image as a role model for Eun Shi-yeon. Yeom Jung Ah portrayed Major Yoon, and this reminds me of her role in Sky Castle who was also a greedy character. Alongside her is Jeon Hye Jin portraying Captain Woo. Her energy in the workplace is also something that can inspire other women. Her role as Captain Woo is quite similar to her character in Search: WWW.
Seeing that contrast of a higher up’s drive, Eun Shi-yeon chooses to follow Captain Woo’s lead. Seo Min-jae has also chosen to remain at the righteous side of the force even after being transferred. Given those, this movie teaches how people have the choice to do good.
In life, we are all given a choice, and it is up to us whether we will lead our lives into the good. Luxury and prestige may not be certain in choosing the good, but the merits of that choice is unparalleled.
