With the recent success of the endearing office rom-com Business Proposal, Kim Min Kyu shares details and pleasant experiences about the drama.
Business Proposal traverses on the story of an employee who unexpectedly goes on a blind date with the president of the company she works at.
In the drama, Kim Min Kyu portrayed the role of Cha Sung Hoon. He is president Kang Tae-mu’s chief secretary and he is paired with Seol In Ah.
Accustomed to close scrutiny, the actor apparently gained 15 kg to perfectly resemble the role Cha Sung Hoon.
Conveying with satisfaction, Kim Min Kyu acknowledges the outpouring of love and attention he has received from viewers who have supported Business Proposal.
“I’m overwhelmed with love and attention. I thought a lot about whether viewers would be convinced by the story in the 12-episode series, but I think it came out well.”
When asked if he was aware of his fame, he noted, “It doesn’t feel very real, but the number of SNS followers increased by more than 1.5 million before and after the work.”
On His Synchro Rate With Chief Secretary Cha Sung Hoon
Boasting a high synchro rate with Cha Sung-hoon, Kim Min Kyu looks as if he leaped out of the original webtoon.
In his efforts to replicate the appearance of Cha Sung-hoon from the webtoon, the actor confessed his long endurance and training to maintain the character’s accuracy.
“Cha Sung-hoon is a character with a good body. I gained 15kg by eating only 6 meals of beef a day. I like snacks so much, but it was hard to endure and exercise.”
Apart from that, the kiss scene between Seol In Ah and Kim Min Kyu after he removed his glasses sparked a heated discussion on social media. Kim Min Kyu consequently remarked, “It was an unexpected reaction.”
He also commented that he was surprised that the glasses’ kiss scene garnered more attention than his bed scene with the actress.
“I prepared more for the bed scene. I had to take off my top, and I thought I would get a lot of attention, but I didn’t know that the kiss scene with the glasses would receive a lot of love. People around me laughed, saying, ‘I’m watching the glasses scene well,’ or ‘I’ve got a modifier along with the glasses.’”
Kim Min Kyu’s Camaraderie With The Cast
Recalling the fun atmosphere he shared with Seol In Ah, Ahn Hyo Seop, and Kim Sejeong, he underlines their development of empathy and their age resemblance. Given their numerous commonalities, this enables them to converse openly and easily on set.
“We share the same sentiments. There are many similarities, and since we are of the same age, we talked without hesitation. Because it’s a rom-com style, the set has no choice but to be fun. It was easy to get to know each other, and that was a big advantage.“
Kim Min Kyu previously stated at a production presentation that Seol In Ah is “like a baby.”
“In the case of Ms. In Ah, it takes a lot of work. She gets hurt and falls over. I was worried because she would get hurt if she looked away. I said she was like a baby because I had to take care of her.“
Bearing in mind Seol In Ah and Kim Min Kyu’s similarities, both stars developed a bond as a result of their on-screen chemistry. He further added that he is “satisfied that the 29-year-old romance was well drawn.”
His Well-Formed Coordination With Ahn Hyo Seop and Kim Sejeong
Regarding his chemistry with Ahn Hyo Seop, Kim Min Kyu observed that it is also another reason to watch the series.
“It’s about 9 out of 10. I’m someone who thinks it’s funny to laugh, but I was really laughing out loud in the scenes.“
Correspondingly, he described his chemistry with Ahn Hyo Seop as a fair agreement with each other, which resulted in their bromance garnering fans’ love and support.
“The chemistry with Ahn Hyo Seop was so good. We agreed well. They gave each other ad-libs so that they could see each other’s chemistry well and act for each other. That’s why I think the bromance is loved, too.”
As for Kim Sejeong, the actor believes they only shared a few scenes. However, he saw the actress as a friend due to her outgoing personality. Additionally, he stated that Kim Sejeong and Seol In Ah are the set’s “mood makers.”
Entering his late twenties this year, Kim Min Kyu muses on the growth he has gained from adopting the role of Cha Sung-hoon and his work in Business Proposal.
“I think it was not a bad time. In the meantime, I met various works and characters, and after all the moments when I had no work, Cha Sung-hoon’s character in Business Proposal came. I think I was able to grow up well because I had a meaningful time.“
Finally, Kim Min Kyu articulates that the drama presented him with a significant new challenge
“I think the challenge was very meaningful because you saw it with love and interest. I’ll be a new actor in various genres, so I ask for your love and interest.”
