Showcasing his extraordinary side as an artist, Park Ji Hoon shared his journey in Weak Hero.
Park Ji Hoon, a 23-year-old singer and actor, has begun a new challenge in his career. Through Wavve’s original series Weak Hero, he proves how versatile he can be. To portray his fierce and violent character, he set his “idol” and “flower boy” images aside.
He joined Mnet’s audition program Produce 101 Season 2 in 2017. There, he captured the viewer’s heart with his cute image even after his debut. Correspondingly, he became known as the “Wink Boy” who set the trend by creating a captivating catchphrase “내 마음속에 저장” or “saved in my heart”.
In Weak Hero, he challenged the character of Yeon Si-eun, a model student who radiates a mysterious aura. He has a soft feature that makes him look physically fragile. But he proved that he was not an easy target and fought the bullies to protect his close friends.
Weak Hero became a hit and achieved excellent results on various charts. Shortly after its release on the 18th, it ranked No. 1 for paid subscribers this year and No. 1 for Kino Rights, an integrated content platform for OTT (online video service).
Park Ji Hoon as Yeon Si Eun
While preparing for Weak Hero, Park Ji Hoon felt anxious about the viewer’s opinion as his character contradicts his charming image. He even questioned himself if he can meet the expectations of the fans. However, his negative thoughts faded away when he saw the positive feedback about his performance.
Park poured his blood, sweat, and tears into bringing his character to life. It was the most emotional acting he portrayed, so he had a hard time getting a hold of it. “Personally, I thought it was the turning point of my life”, he remarked.
For almost two years, Park Ji Hoon became part of the Monster Rookie Group Wanna One before becoming a soloist. He recalls the moment he fell apart from the members and made that an inspiration to pull off the role. Through this, he found the common denominator between him and Si-eun and expressed the character’s loneliness.
The drama captured a lot of hearts and the viewers are already expecting season 2. Grateful for the viewers’ appreciation, he commented, “I think it will be possible if there are many good reactions.”
Ji Hoon was pleased to know that the fans didn’t see him as “Park Ji Hoon” in the drama. It means that the character was fully executed.
“That’s what I really wanted to hear. I want to do better in the future. I’m getting more inspired.”
