Slated to premiere tonight, May I Help You held its drama presentation with its lead stars and director.
May I Help You tells the story of mutual cooperation between a funeral director and a go-to guy of an errand service company.
As the series resurrects the Wednesday-Thursday drama slot of MBC, expectations are high for the series. Regarding that, Director Shim So Yeon gives a sound response. He also expounds on the creative process and messages he wants to share through the series.
“I’m happy that MBC’s Wednesday-Thursday drama is reviving like this. But it was a burden at first because it was our first project. Nevertheless, I’m concentrating on my work in the hope that it will be a good story that will remain in my memory for a long time. I didn’t want to treat death as someone’s end, like an eternal farewell. Sometimes I wanted to express it in a plain and pleasant way.”
Moreover, PD Shim also expressed his confidence in the bright energy of Hyeri and the confidence of Lee Jun Young.
In the drama, Baek Dong-ju (Lee Hyeri), a funeral director grants the wishes of the deceased. She partners with a man called Butler Kim (Lee Jun Young) whose work is running errands.
They listen to requests and help the dead and the living achieve those wishes. Creepy but warm, ironic but heartbreaking, the bizarre requests and adventures will gift heartening stories and pleasant laughter.
Lee Hyeri and Lee Jun Young’s Character Preparations
Relaying her preparations to her character, Hyeri shares how it was beautiful to think that an ordinary person can become a hero to someone.
“It’s a fantasy drama, and I thought that the more I read the script, the more realistic it was. It’s a drama that touches reality, but it blends well. I thought it could target various generations.”
For her new project, the actress reunites with writer Lee Seon-hye whom she worked previously in Reply 1988. She shares that their relationship was not the reason why she took the role but the impressive story writer Lee wrote.
Meanwhile, Lee Jun Young expressed gratefulness to return to MBC’s camp since Please Don’t Date Him. He also conveys his amazement to May I Help You.
“It’s amazing. There were many realistic aspects of what each character was going to do, and the hearts of those who worked for the series were warm and good. That’s why I chose this work.”
Giving a hint about the romance in the story, Hyeri said the chemistry begins past the middle mark of the story. She also shares that the efforts put into casting the senior actors who appeared in the show really captured overwhelming emotions.
Echoing his co-star’s remark, Lee Jun Young said the chemistry while filming was great even. They sweat, laugh, and cry but were happy while shooting.
May I Help You premieres tonight on MBC at 9:50 PM. International fans can watch it on Prime Video.
