Luo Zhi’s secret is out and Sheng Huainan knows about it in episodes 21 to 24 of Unrequited Love!
Overthinking definitely did not help Huainan who belatedly understood that Luo Zhi’s lies came from her deep and long-running adoration. Emotions are high in these chapters of the series and its genuine representation of all those crazy things we did for our youth love was nailed on point.

Unrequited Love Episodes 21 – 24 Key Moments
“You beautify a person you have a crush on from a distance.”
While Huainan ponders on how it would have been nice to have met Luo Zhi in Senior High. Meanwhile, Luo Zhi sits curiously watching Mingru playing basketball. They chat about his woes courting Riqing especially since they don’t have something in common.
Taking a side job as tour guide at Gulangyu, Luo Zhi stares at a cute dog statue holding a ring with its mouth pondering on her love fate with Huainan. Unknown to her, Huainan is also in the town and saw her gloomy face.
Finding Luo Zhi sitting on a bench, Huainan hands an umbrella to which she ignores. She explains why she’s in Gulangyu and he gets mad for her getting another job when she already has one. Luo Zhi asks why he’s acting worried about her.
“Why should I answer your question yet you never explain yourself to me?”
Refusing to indulge what he was curious about when he always hides things on her, he asks what he needs to answer. But she dismisses it since she’s not important enough for him to indulge her queries. Pointing how much she cares, he asks why she’s holding back and she truthfully responds how she does not want to involve herself anymore with someone who comes and goes as he pleases.
About to leave, Huainan stops her and asks if she likes him. He confesses knowing about it since he already saw her Senior High diary. Affirming the truth about her observing him from afar, thus, making them in sync – Huainan declares how she used it to make him fall for her.
Wiping her tears, Luo Zhi mocks how Huainan was not able to realize the main point of his question. He asks why she likes him of all people, but she can’t bring to truly say how he was the light in her darkest days when she was young.
It further amplified Huainan’s suspicion that she’s up for a vengeance when she said she likes him because he’s Sheng Huainan.
“In everything that you did for me, which one is the truth.”
Realizing how small Huainan thinks about her and how he seems fixated to the idea that she has ulterior motive, Luo Zhi makes her sad confession. She admits liking her since senior high so she studies him so she can be closer to him.
“I love everything about you. I pursued everything about you. Using three chopsticks, placing fatty meat on the rung of the chair, and drinking afternoon tea. All of these coincidences are my deliberate lies. But because these lies are my stepping stones to be able to get closer to you. Sheng Huainan, I like you! That’s the only thing that’s true!”
After her heartfelt confession, Luo Zhi runs away. She finds a salon and cut her hair short. Reckoning how she grew her hair long for him, she decides to end her long-running crush on him. Under the pouring rain, she aimlessly runs to have her tears washed away.
Huainan who returns to their home was also drenched by the rain. Worried about Luo Zhi, Mingrui and Baili look for her and found her passed out on the ground.
“Did Sheng Huainan hurt you again?”
Waking up and remembering what happened to her, Luo Zhi calls Baili’s attention. She confirms finally making a confession to Huainan, but not the one she imagined. Mingrui, who was at the door, heard it and pieces out what happened to his two friends. Baili comforts her profusely and vows to be always there for her.
Luo Zhi’s first visitors are Tiffany, Jake and their mom Zhuyan. Narrating to her about what happened to her unrequited love with Huainan, Luo Zhi agonizingly recalls how her 15 years worth of affection was officially revealed.
Zhuyan consoles her weary heart by reminding her that what happened will be part of her youth. Unknown to Luo Zhi, Zhu Yan is actually related to Huainan. She is his aunt, but her relationship has been estranged to the Sheng family.
Catching up with the lost times, Huainan’s aunt chronicles what has happened to her since her relationship fallout with his father. Not wanting to beat around the bush, Zhu Yan also asks him the important question she really intends to know. That is if he likes Luo Zhi.
Huainan relays how he worries about his mom’s refusal for him to like Luo Zhi. Since he does not want her to get hurt again, he is crossed with his options. He is also leery about her real intentions to which Zhu Yan advises for him to think in a different perspective. If Luo Zhi has intentionally hurt him when she was with him.
Telling her nephew of how much Luo Zhi loves him, she urges him to not take their parents feud as road block to what he really wants to pursue. She coaches him to gift her a promise of happiness.
“Mom, don’t meddle with my love affairs. That’s my minimum requirement for coming back.”
Sitting with his mom on the breakfast table, Huainan listens to her mom ask if he is really in love with Luo Zhi. But a phone call from Ge Bi made him rush to the school. Before leaving, he also makes a firm warning to his mom not to meddle with his love affairs.
At the Student Council office, Ge Bi briefed Huainan of what happened and how Yongle is nowhere to be be found. The famous novelist Mo Dan’s secretary apparently expressed dissatisfaction to the interview questions submitted. Suggesting Luo Zhi fits the bill of the person who can help them at the moment, they rush to contact her.
They later found out that Zhanyan did not use the prepared reference made by Luo Zhi. Ge Bi calls Luo Zhi but she can’t be reached so he called Baili who informed him that Luo Zhi is in the hospital.
Upon hearing what happened to Luo Zhi, Huainan rushes to go to her with Ge Bi. Refusing to ride with them, Luo Zhi is princess carried by Huainan. Working on revising the interview script, Huainan receives her cold treatment.
“We are not intimate enough for you to be worried about me.”
Another problem happened at the Student Council office with Ge Bi missing the accounting books. Baili and Luo Zhi volunteer to help while waiting at their pitched tent for Mo Dan’s symposium. Later, Huainan and Ge Bi visit their tent to help out the girls. When Baili and Ge Bi go out to get some food, Huainan tries to coax Luo Zhi who remained passive of his warm actions.
When he learned that she still has a fever, he wraps her with thick blanket and becomes her instant strict nurse. Feeling her legs getting numb, Luo Zhi decided to take a walk with Huainan following her. He asks if they can still go back to the way they were before, but Luo Zhi apologizes that it will not be possible anymore.
The next day, Luo Zhi and Baili bring the blankets left by Huainan and Ge Bi. They also receive two VIP tickets for the symposium. When Huainan spots Luo Zhi at the library returning a book, he also receives the raincoat he lent her.
Chasing after her, he apologized for the misunderstandings the past few days. But Luo Zhi has had enough of his insincere apologies. She also points out how he seems to not know if he will stay or stay away from her.
Huainan responds how he thought she can understand him easily. She tells him how he has never done something out of the line to her except making her sad. Still not knowing how to explain himself properly, Luo Zhi is left with no choice but express her thoughts.
“That’s right. I lied to you. But those lies just helped me maintain an illusion and balance. I have never done anything unethical. None at all.
Watching Luo Zhi walked away, Huainan ponders how she has been looking at his back view in the years that she has been secretly adoring him. Feeling the same situation, he hopes for her to turn her back so he can apologize and for him to be given another chance.
“I’m willing to do so, only because of Mr. Mo Dan.”
It’s novelist Mo Dan’s symposium D-Day. In high spirits, Baili and Luo Zhi go to the event with their VIP passes. Backstage, Mo Dan’s manager chide Zhanyan and Huainan for coming unprepared. To ensure the event pushes through, Huainan talked to Mo Dan that the interviewer will be changed with the person who came up with interview questions. Ge Bi goes to fetch Luo Zhi to prepare for the event.
Luo Zhi agrees earnestly to be part of her favorite novelist’ event and work together with Huainan as hosts of the event. Smoothly anchoring the interview, the event was an eventual success.
Later, Huainan has a heart-to-heart talk with Mingrui who already deduced that his friend likes Luo Zhi. Convincing him to set aside his pride, Huainan can only give a meaningful stare.
“Men are the source of trouble.”
After class, Luo Zhi, Mingrui and Huainan talk about Wenrui whose recent spacing out caused her dismissal from Professor Wen’s class. Blaming it to Huainan, Luo Zhi goes to her schedule while Mingrui teases Huainan of switching role with Luo Zhi. Now, he is the one looking on her back view when she leaves.
Admitting he wants to chase after her, but is scared that she does not like him anymore, Mingrui rubs salt on his wound by stating he deserves it. Still, he tells Huainan to work harder since she still most likely has left a little feelings for him even after all the pain he caused.
Backed up by his dorm mates, Huainan goes to the Student Council dinner celebration, only to find out that Luo Zhi can’t make it.
Unrequited Love Episodes 21 – 24 Musings
A lot happened in these four episodes of Unrequited Love, but the highlight is definitely Lu Zhi’s forced love confession. I support Mingrui’s claim that Huainan deserves Luo Zhi’s cold treatment. Unrequited Love marked its focus on the love conflict.
Now, that Luo Zhi seemingly has emancipated herself from Huainan’s love bind, and we see him chasing after her, I can’t wait to see how he will make up for his indecisiveness.
Featuring a few side love stories, I honestly feel overwhelmed sometimes monitoring the progress of the couples struggling to make their one-sided love affairs – equal.
Hopefully, the door to Luo Zhi’s happiness will really commence very soon. But yes, Huainan should make a convincing pitch on why he deserves a chance on Luo Zhi’s pure love.
Smartly covering the perspectives of the main love pairing, this series really takes any viewer who has fond or painful youth love memories. Something that I greatly appreciate because the plot was able to establish a deeply-moving narrative on a theme that is quite familiar.
