In 2016, Gong Yoo scored three films namely A Man and a Woman, Train To Busan and The Age of Shadows. All of which had been critically lauded and well-received in the box office. This year, he aims the same path with three films coming underway including Seobok, Wonderland and Sea of Silence.

Donning stylish Ralph Lauren suits and neat casual attires in the preview photos, the actor also relayed stories about Seobok, his film collaboration with Park Bo Gum.

For his new film, Gong Yoo takes the role of secret service agent, Ki-heon. As his last mission, Ki-heon must ensure the safe transport of Seobok (Park Bo Gum). The human clone holds the secret to eternal life. The characters will face challenges as forces will try their best to get their hands on the human clone.

CJENM announced that Seobok will be concurrently released at the theaters and OTT platform TVING on April 15.

Conveying his expectations to his comeback work, the actor mentioned it is a science fiction in terms of genre. But it’s a philosophical story.

He said, “At that time, it was the most difficult scenario I reviewed, and it was very profound. It’s like always challenging. However, the essence of this film is good if it is delivered to the audience as well as I want it to be. Even if it is not delivered, I decided that it is worth the challenge and it is a story worth trying.”

On Working with Park Bo Gum

Co-starring with Park Bo Gum, Seobok has been eagerly-awaited as a collaboration of two popular actors in their respective generations. Gong Yoo mentions how working with the younger actor reminded him of how he was life when he was younger. He bonded well through understanding Bo-gum’s perspective because he has gone through the same thought as well before.

When asked about empathizing to Park Bo Gum’s challenge as one of the country’s leading actors, Gong Yoo profoundly said, “I think that he enjoys more comfortably and wants to pass time naturally. So, I feel like I will take care of it more warmly from the side and look at what I did not enjoy at that age.”

He also remarked an advice he often told Bo-gum as a habit while filming. “You don’t have to carry everything on your own.” Gong Yoo gave him a pep talk of how too much consideration exhausts the person. “They don’t even know that they’re already exhausted, and they think it’s okay, like a habit. Do everything you want to do, don’t be too patient, and get upset when you’re angry,” he further advised him.

More of his insights about Seobok and photos can be seen in the April 2021 issue of Esquire. Physical copies are available today at bookstores and can also be found on the official website.
