SHINee’s youngest member, Taemin, privately enlisted for his mandatory military service today.
On April 19, Taemin officially announced his military enlistment via V Live. While preparing for his enlistment, Taemin held a solo concert Beyond Live: N.G.D.A (Never Gonna Dance Again) on May 2 that attracted 90,000 viewers. His third solo album reached more than 30 countries in iTunes’ Top Album chart.
Before enlisting, Taemin also released his final solo album Advice on May 18 to close his ‘idol’ activities. Taemin stated, “I hope this album will be a little comforting for my fans during my blank period.” Together with the whole member of SHINee, they released their repackaged album Atlantis last April 12.

Taemin will be accomplishing his defensive duties as an Army Military band after fulfilling his basic military training. As the maknae of the group, SHINee’s military enlistment completes once Taemin finishes his. On December 18, Onew fulfilled his military duties while Key and Minho joined the Army and Marine Corps in 2019.
For their 13th anniversary, SHINee performed a special live broadcast on Naver V LIVE last May 25. During the ‘SHINee Day,’ SM executive producer Lee Soo-man, director Yoo Young-jin, and other executives surprised the members with a video letter.
Lee Soo Man made an encouraging message to Taemin, “I think the three will work even harder. You can go feeling rest assured. You worked very hard to stand in the place of those three by yourself. Onew, Key, and Minho will work very hard to keep the name of the SHINee.
Once you’re in the military, as a man, you’ll realize how you can do a better job.” He also added, “I’ll congratulate and be thankful toward you and the other three, and once you’re discharged, you’ll be able to do bigger and greater things. I’ll be waiting. Be safe and healthy!”
