A new set of icons is finally declared as winners of 2022 Pinoy K-Pop Star!
Guests were treated with high caliber and spectacular performances last July 16, 2022, at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall from the finalists of both the Vocal and Dance categories.
Hosted by Kring Kim, 2022 Pinoy KPop Star was attended by more than 1, 000 where 200 of them pre-registered tickets for the event. This doesn’t include the guests who were not able to enter the Music Hall and watched the event from the sidelines and from the booth upstairs.
While the guests initially went there to watch spectacular performances, the audience themselves were able to show what they are capable of with a Random Play Dance prior to the event.
Joy Locsin Emerges as New Vocal Icon
Vocal Category finalists Sandra Dela Cruz, Merry Mia Sinaguinan, Danimei Everett, Joy Locsin and Stephanie Aseron fought neck-to-neck with their astonishing vocals, but ultimately Joy Locsin bested other bets with her performance of Hyolyn’s So What, winning by a slim margin.
As the 1st placer, she won Php 50,000 cash prize and will represent the Philippines in the 2022 Changwon Kpop World Festival. Merry Mia Sinaguinan, who sang a cover of I.U’s My Sea, and Sandra Dela Cruz, who belted a cover of Kim Sohyang’s Hello, respectively won 2nd and 3rd place. They also won Php 30,000 and Php 20,000 respectively as cash prizes.
After the vocal category, the audience was treated to a special performance from world-class P-Pop girl group KAIA, surprising their fans with a special version of their hit song BLAH BLAH. They also performed a cover of Le Sserafim’s Fearless, a nod to their roots before becoming the superstars they are today. Some members of KAIA were notably also former contestants in the previous years of Pinoy Kpop Star.
ALPHA Begins Its Reign As Dance Icon
The Dance Category finalists also made it hard for the judges as Amiel Giann Surla, Project One, Alpha, and 7ØS performed powerful covers of their selected Kpop songs. And while their performance was interrupted on that day, Principium was able to shine and show the result of their blood, sweat, and tears in KCC’s new building in front of their invited guests. Their performance was recorded and sent to the judges for their scoring.
Ultimately, ALPHA won the hearts of the judges with their cover of N.MIXX’ O.O, claiming the Php 50,000 cash prize. They were followed by Principium who won 2nd place and the Php 30,000 cash prize with their cover of Seventeen’s HOT.
Project One, on the other hand, won Php 20,000 as a cash prize as the 3rd placer overall with their smooth cover of Treasure’s Jikjin. Both ALPHA and Principium will officially represent the Philippines for the 2022 Changwon Kpop World Festival in Korea.
The immense effort and high-caliber talent of all winners and participants will be awarded and honored on July 29, 2022, at a special awarding ceremony at the Korean Embassy.
While guests are left wanting for more, more is what KCC will give as 2022 Pinoy Kpop Star and the crowning of the next ICON is not the end. The year is still jam-packed with exciting events from KCC which will surely leave guests and KCC friends craving for more.
