Peeling back the glitz and glamour with explosive humor, Aema reveals the cutthroat realities of 1980s Chungmuro!
This witty and sharp-edged comedy dives into the cutthroat world of 1980s film industry, where two actresses find themselves entangled in the drama both on and off the screen while starring in the box-office sensation Madame Aema.
Jeong Hee-ran, is a top-tier actress whose fiery temper and unshakable sense of justice cost her the lead role due to creative clashes. Portrayed by the charismatic Lee Ha Nee (The Fiery Priest, Knight Flower, Phantom), Hee-ran refuses to back down without a fight. Meanwhile, nightclub dancer-turned-actress Shin Ju-ae, played by rising star Bang Hyo Rin, lands the coveted role, catapulting her into the chaotic world of Chungmuro stardom.
Jin Sun Kyu (Alchemy of Souls, The Outlaws, Extreme Job) takes on the role of Ku Jung-ho, a cunning filmmaker willing to do whatever it takes to survive in an industry ruled by power plays and backstabbing. Determined to teach Hee-ran a lesson, he throws open auditions to hand the leading role to an unknown actress—sparking a whirlwind of competition and scandal.
Adding to the mix is Kwak In Woo (Cho Hyun-chul, D.P.), a timid yet ambitious rookie director with dreams of making his big break with Madame Aema. But in an industry where talent alone isn’t enough, will he survive the chaos, or will his debut film become just another casualty of the system?
Packed with humor, ambition, and razor-sharp industry satire, this drama offers a front-row seat to the battles behind the glitz and glamour of Chungmuro’s golden era.
