Netflix is set to unveil one of its most intense and thought-provoking series yet, As You Stood By, which has been officially invited to the 30th Busan International Film Festival’s On Screen section.
This highly anticipated K-drama tells the story of two women caught in lives so suffocating that death seems like their only escape — until a desperate choice to kill sets them on an irreversible path.
The series is adapted from Hideo Okuda’s acclaimed novel Naomi & Kanako and directed by Lee Jeong-lim (VIP, The Revenant), who brings a sharp and emotionally charged lens to this tale of trauma, friendship, and survival. As You Stood By is about two women bound not only by friendship but also by their shared struggle against violence, control, and the painful scars of their past.
Eun-su (Jeon So Nee), a polished luxury VIP handler at a department store, appears put-together and successful, but inside she still carries unresolved trauma from her childhood, when she helplessly watched her father abuse her mother. Her best friend, Hui-su (Lee You Mi), once a rising star in children’s literature, has lost her voice and her freedom under the iron grip of her abusive husband, Jin-pyo (Jang Seung-jo). When Eun-su realizes the extent of Hui-su’s suffering, the two women find themselves at a crossroads — and hatch a shocking plan to kill Jin-pyo and reclaim their lives.
The newly released teaser sets the stage for an edge-of-your-seat experience. We see the fragile balance of friendship and fear as Eun-su and Hui-su attempt to carry out their plan, all while being shadowed by mounting threats. Jin-pyo grows increasingly dangerous, while the enigmatic CEO Jin So-baek (Lee Mu-saeng) looms in the background, his intentions unclear but his presence impossible to ignore.
