Working on Big Mouth after his military discharge, Lee Jong Suk shares the reason behind choosing the series as his comeback project.
In a recent interview, Lee Jong Suk said that he had been close with Oh Choong Hwan, the director of Big Mouth, even before filming the upcoming series. As he got an offer from the director to have fun working together as they did before, after much deliberation, he decided to accept the role.
For Lee Jong Suk, the sudden change of events, such as an ordinary lawyer becoming a genius fraud, was very interesting. The tough transformation made the actor show a new side of himself.
Big Mouth tells the story of the character Park Chang-ho (Lee Jong Suk), a lawyer in Gucheon, who suddenly got involved in a murder case. Overnight, he unexpectedly became the genius con artist named Big Mouth. Together with his wife, Ko Mi-ho (Im Yoona), they fight against the allegations and try to find the truth, looking into the world of the privileged.
Becoming the Genius Con Artist
When asked about the actor’s first impression of Park Chang-ho, he expressed his sympathy and support to the lawyer.
“When I first saw the script, he was a normal and more pitiful person. I felt sorry for Park Chang-ho, who became a genius swindler overnight and was struggling not to have to go to prison, but I also wanted to support him.”
Moreover, his view of Park Chang-ho changed as he gets to learn more about his character. The actor currently sees Chang-ho as a man full of strength and determination who seeks to survive. He added,
“Now, looking at Park Chang-ho, I think that he is a very strong character rather than an ordinary person. I hope that viewers will check it out by watching the broadcast to see what this strength means.”
He also shared that he worried about portraying both Lawyer Park Chang-ho and con artist Big Mouth. It is because these characters have differences and distinctive personalities from one another. Wanting to pay attention and take into consideration of the minor details, he adjusts how he looks and speaks to distinguish the two from each other.
“I wanted to make a difference in details such as eyes and tone of voice. Lawyer Park Chang-ho and genius con artist Park Chang-ho are the same person, but they have different goals and emotions. I thought hard to act out the emotions that fit each person’s situation.”
Wrapping up the interview, the lead actor excitedly said,
“In ‘Big Mouth’, various characters are intricately intertwined. I would like you to pay attention to what these characters really are and what kind of bare face is hidden behind the raging events. As it is a work with a strong story, every episode I think it will be interesting to watch.”
