Byun Yo Han, Go Joon, Go Bo Gyeol, and Kim Bora are intricately linked through a chilling murder case in Black Out.
MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama Black Out, premiering on August 16 is a reverse-tracking crime thriller. The series follows a young man, Go Jeong-woo, who, after being imprisoned for a murder he can’t remember, returns to his hometown a decade later to unravel the truth behind the mysterious case in which no body was ever found.
In the drama, Go Jeong-woo (Byun Yo Han) comes back to Mucheon City after serving time for the murder of two classmates. With no recollection of the events, he becomes entangled with detective Noh Sang-chul (Go Joon), who has been keeping a close watch on him, his loyal friend Choi Na-gyeom (played by Go Bo-gyeol), and Ha Seol (played by Kim Bo-ra), a newcomer to the village. The complex relationships between these characters are central to the unfolding mystery.
First, the dynamic between Go Jeong-woo and detective Noh Sang-chul is particularly intriguing. Once labeled the culprit in a high-profile murder case that shook Mucheon City 11 years ago, Go Jeong-woo returns to face widespread scorn, including from Noh Sang-chul, who has since been demoted to the local police station. Noh Sang-chul harbors a deep-seated hatred for criminals, adding tension to his interactions with Go Jeong-woo. As Go Jeong-woo seeks to piece together his fragmented memories, viewers will be eager to see if he and Noh Sang-chul can uncover the long-buried truth.
The relationship between Go Jeong-woo and Choi Na-gyeom (Go Bo Gyeol) is also notable. Despite the dire circumstances, Na-gyeom, who has supported Jeong-woo both financially and emotionally during his prison term, has risen to fame as a top actor. The contrast between Jeong-woo’s fall from grace and Na-gyeom’s success highlights their ironic bond. Na-gyeom remains committed to Go Jeong-woo, even planning to live together in Seoul once he is released. The drama will explore how this unusual relationship impacts their quest for the truth.
Lastly, Ha Seol’s (Kim Bora) involvement adds another layer of intrigue. As an outsider drawn to the quiet life in Mucheon City, Ha Seol becomes intrigued by the revelation ofJeong-woo’s criminal past. His fresh perspective and impartial stance are expected to aid Jeong-woo in his search for answers. The collaboration between these two characters, each grappling with their own questions, promises to offer new insights into the case.
Black Out is set to deliver gripping twists and a captivating mystery as it delves into the interconnected lives of four individuals entangled in a complex web of conflict and support. Viewers will be on edge to uncover the events of that fateful day 11 years ago and see how it reshapes their relationships.
MBC’s Black Out, continuing the intricate web of relationships and mysteries, premieres August 16 at 9:50 PM.
