Jang Ki Yong and Cha Seung Won Lead All-Star Cast of New Webtoon-Based Series

Actors Jang Ki Yong, Cha Seung Won, Park Hee Soon, Roh Jeong Eui, and Kim Dae Myung have officially confirmed their roles in the upcoming series and the production has now entered full-scale filming.

Pigpen (WT) is a mystery thriller directed and written by Kim Sang-man, based on the popular Naver webtoon of the same name by Kim Kan-bi and Cheon Beom-sik.

The series follows the story of Jin-woo, played by Jang Ki Yong, who loses his memory and finds himself stranded on a deserted island. As he desperately searches for his lost memories, he uncovers strange and unsettling truths about his bizarre family. The series promises to deliver intense suspense, with unpredictable twists that delve deep into the abyss of human experience, offering a genre-defining thrill.

The original webtoon is another hit from Kim Kan-bi, the author behind the hugely successful Sweet Home. Given the popularity of the source material, expectations are high for this series adaptation. Studio N, known for turning webtoon originals into hits like Sweet Home, Yumi’s Cells, Vigilante, Hounds, and The Eight Show, is producing Pigpen.

Director Kim Sang-man, who previously worked on the Netflix film The War, Ran produced by Park Chan-wook, is both directing and writing the screenplay. Known for his background in creating iconic movie posters for films like Parasite, The Host, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, Kim Sang-man is expected to bring his signature visual flair to the project, enhancing the original work’s appeal.

The series also boasts a cast of actors perfectly suited to the thriller genre, heightening anticipation.

Jang Ki Yong takes on the role of Jin-woo, a man who, after losing his memory, arrives on a mysterious island. His character struggles to recall his past to escape from his peculiar family, eventually confronting a shocking secret.

Jang expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “I was captivated by Pigpen and found the character incredibly intriguing. I’m excited to work with such a talented team and cast, and I’ll do my best to create something truly exceptional.”

Cha Seung Won joins the cast as the enigmatic owner of a pension on the island, a man who claims to hear the voice of God. His character is shrouded in mystery, and his powerful presence adds a layer of tension as he exerts control over Jin-woo. Cha Seung-won’s casting has generated excitement among both drama fans and fans of the original webtoon, with many noting his perfect fit for the role.

Cha shared his thoughts on the series, stating, “I was drawn to Pigpen because of its unique genre, which is something I’ve always wanted to explore. I’m eager to see what we can create together.

Park Hee Soon portrays Bae Jung-ho, a man determined to find his missing son, driving much of the drama’s tension. A respected actor with a strong public following, Park Hee-soon is expected to elevate the series with his portrayal of this relentless character.

He commented, “I’m grateful to be part of a series based on such a popular webtoon. I’m committed to delivering not just the thrill and mystery of the original but also new emotional depth. Please look forward to it.”

Roh Jeong Eui steps into the role of Romi, the mysterious eldest daughter of the pension owner. Romi is a provocative and dangerous character who tries to persuade Jin-woo to leave the island.

Noh Jung-eui, signaling a significant transformation in her acting, expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m both happy and nervous to work with actors I admire so much. I’m preparing with great care.

Finally, Kim Dae Myung plays Jin Tae-hee, a suspicious worker at the pension who, while seemingly loyal to the owner, subtly aids Jin-woo in finding a way off the island. Known for his warm, familiar roles, Kim Dae-myung is expected to surprise viewers with this cool and enigmatic character.

He shared, “I want to convey the intensity I felt when I first read the script. I’m honored to work with such a talented cast and director, and I’m committed to making this project as compelling as possible.”

Filming for Pigpen is now underway, with a planned release in 2025. Fans of the original webtoon and new viewers alike are eagerly awaiting what promises to be a thrilling and visually stunning series.
