Kim So Yeon is making her highly anticipated return to JTBC this October with the new weekend drama A Virtuous Business, marking her first appearance on the network in nine years.
Directed by Jo Woong and written by Choi Bo-rim, A Virtuous Business is set in 1992 and revolves around a group of four women who dive into the door-to-door sales of adult products in a conservative rural village, at a time when discussing topics like sex was considered taboo. The show promises to tackle themes of independence, growth, and friendship as these women navigate the challenges of breaking societal norms.
Kim So Yeon, widely acclaimed for her exceptional acting, takes on the role of Han Jeong-sook, a housewife who has lived a quiet, restrained life. Jeong-sook’s character, whose name fittingly reflects her calm demeanor, transforms when she starts selling adult products to support her family. The story portrays her journey from a passive homemaker to a successful and bold saleswoman.
Once celebrated for her beauty and crowned “Golden Pepper Lady ‘Jin’,” she married her first love and led a cautious life. However, when financial struggles prevent her from buying her son a new bag and paying rent, she decides to take control of her fate by entering the adult products sales business, where she discovers a hidden talent for marketing.
The teaser poster, which was recently released, hints at Jeong-sook’s intriguing transformation. Dressed in an old-fashioned outfit with a mysterious aura, she presents a covered item on a silver plate, symbolizing the 19+ nature of her new business venture. In A Virtuos Business, Jeong-sook leads the “Sisters of the Door-to-Door Adult Products,” a group of women who defy the norms of their time. Joining her are Kim Sung Ryung as Oh Geum-hee, the intellectual of the group; Kim Sun Young as Seo Young-bok, a happily married mother of many children; and Lee Se Hee as Lee Joo-ri, a fashionable single mom.
Together, these women navigate the conservative landscape of their rural town, bringing light to the hidden world of married life while injecting humor, heart, and empowerment into their journey. Adding a touch of mystery is Yeon Woo Jin, who plays Kim Do-hyun, a detective with an American-style approach, who stands out in the rural village of Geum-je.
