Kingdom: Ashin of the North definitely still counts as a Halloween treat from Netflix!
The widely-loved Netflix zombie thriller is bringing in Jun Ji Hyun and Park Byung Eun to unravel mysteries in a special episode of Kingdom series.
Kingdom: Ashin of the North is a sidequel from Kingdom season two and a backstory about the cryptic character Lee Chang’s group encountered on their journey north to discover the origins of the infected.
This traces to the appearance of Jun Ji Hyun. She takes the role of Ashin who intrigued the audiences after being shown at the end of Kingdom season two.
In this eagerly anticipated bonus story, Jun as Ashin will unveil the mystery behind her identity. Park Byung-eun, who made a lasting impression in Kingdom season two as the head of the Royal Commandery Min Chi-rok, is also confirmed to star. The new story will detail what had happened to Ashin in the past in the northern region and how the two characters’ fates intertwined.
Expect also to unearth the origins of the resurrection plant and the secrets behind the infected.
Backing up the production is PD Kim Seong Hun, who directed Kingdom season one and oversaw the production for season two. He will team up again with brilliant writer Kim Eun-hee, who scripted the first two seasons.
Baram Pictures, BA Entertainment and Studio Dragon will co-produce this special episode.
Billed to expand the web of intrigue presented in the Kingdom series, while adding more fuel to the K-zombie craze, Kingdom: Ashin of the North will be released worldwide only on Netflix.
The special episode will air in 2021.
