Acclaimed actor Lee Sun Gyun scores the first hero of Apple TV+ produced Korean drama, Dr. Brain.
The actor has quite victorious feats in dramas and films. He is part of the award-winning film, Parasite. His popular dramas include My Mister, Miss Korea and Pasta.
Based on a popular webtoon, Dr. Brain is dubbed as a sci-fi mystery thriller. It is also the first drama project of highly-regarded director Kim Jee Won. His notable works include films A Bittersweet Life, I Saw The Devil and The Age of Shadows.
It chronicles the emotional journey of a brain scientist who has strong commitment to new technologies that can access consciousness and memory contained in the brain.
The sci-fi thriller hero gets caught up in a mysterious event pushing him to start collecting memories by accessing the brains of those involved in the cryptic event including his wife. Through retrieving their memories, he sets to solve the mystery of what happened to them and why.
Director Kim Jee Won’s 1st Drama
Taking pride of showing a new and interesting genre area of a sci-fi thriller, Director Kim remarked how the premise of the series connecting to the brain to read memories was interesting. He adds how the hero would untangle a puzzling occurrence through deciphering the memories he would retrieve.
“Events can be reconstructed by what we can see, hear, and experience, and can be stored in the brain as a memory. Touching on the theme of consciousness that the protagonist is aware of the lack and contradictions within himself while seeing the perception of other people about him through their memories,” Director Kim added.
The director also disclosed of their collaboration with Apple, which has special know-how and respect for the original content.
Dr. Brain is produced by Korean studio Bound Entertainment for Apple TV+ It will be co-produced with Kakao Entertainment, Studio Flex, and Dark Circle Pictures.
It is currently being filmed in Korea and is scheduled to be released worldwide on Apple TV+ this year.
