Aiming to present high-quality works, MBC keenly plans on its drama roster next year.
In line with the change of viewers’ life patterns due to the pandemic situation, MBC broke the stereotype of mini series which usually runs 16 episodes. The network aired various lengths of dramas such as four-episode, eight-episode and 12-episode series this year.
Moreover, MBC ambitiously introduced SF8, a crossover work between movies and dramas. The stories are produced by production companies utilizing scripts from screenplay competition.
In the coming year, MBC will take a two-month break for its weekday mini series. It will resume broadcast on its Wednesday-Thursday slot in March.

Oh! Master
Cohabitation plus romantic comedy make Oh! Master such a highly-anticipated treat especially for rom-com cravers. Playing the role of a best-seller thriller writer who does not have a relationship is Lee Min Ki. Nana takes the role of rom-com actress who ironically struggles in romantic relationship.
It is a work that makes you look forward to a sweet yet heartwarming romantic comedy. Writer Jo Jin Guk (Soulmate, Fated to Love You) pens the script. Director Hyun Sol Ip calls the shot of the production.
No One But a Madman
Penned by Jeong Do Yoon (Witch at Court) and directed by Kim Geun Hong, Not Crazy traverses the fierce survival of middle-aged workers struggling in a turbulent workplace.
Moon So Ri, who showed off her presence through various genres such as movies and dramas, will appear in MBC drama after 12 years in the role of Dang Ja-young Dang, leader of the workaholic HR team with excellent leadership.
Dang Ja-young is a girl-crush, quick-witted, and most workaholic in the HR team. She is a capable person who dreams of becoming the first female executive in the company. However, her wish went to an engineer who has been barely working as a developer in the HR team.
Black Sun
In the second half of this year, the espionage action thriller Black Sun launches with reliable actor Namgoong Min.
For this drama, Namgoong Min takes the role of a skilled NIS agent who disappeared and returns to the organization to find an internal traitor who betrayed and pushed him to hell.
Black Sun is the winner of the 2018 MBC drama screenplay competition written by Park Seok Ho. It will be produced by MBC and Wavve investing 15 billion won for its 12-episode run. At the helm of the project is Director Kim Sung Yong of My Healing Love and Flowers of the Prison fame.
Red Cuff of the Sleeve
In the tradition of MBC’s iconic period dramas, comes Red Cuff of the Sleeve, aiming for a broadcast in the second half of the year. It is a dramatized novel of the same title and depicts an agonizing historical drama of unfulfilled love between King Jeongjo and Seong Ui-bin.
MBC is known for its classic and contemporary historical series loved by the audience. That includes Dae Jang Geum, Dong Yi, Queen Seondeok, Moon Embracing the Sun and Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung.
Be a Meal
For MBC’s daily drama, which is a staple evening enjoyment during weekdays, there will be a slight change of time to 7:10 PM KST. Thus, upcoming series, Be a Meal takes the same time when it begins next year.
The series stars Jae Hee, Jung Woo Yun, Kwon Hyuk. Kang Da Hyun, and Jo Han Joon in the backdrop of the world of royal cuisine. Love and friendship as well as ambition and forgiveness are expected elements of Be a Meal.
Collaborating in the creative team are writer Ha Cheong Ok ( You Are Too Much, I Summon You Gold) and director Baek Ho Min (My Husband Oh Jak Doo). The latter has been recognized for his works in the last three years which include My Daughter, Geum Sa Wol and Come! Jang Bo Ri.
Jae Hee is billed to play a daddy-long-legs role as Gyeong-su. The series is eyeing mid-January air date.
