iQIYI’s first Korean original production gifts a first peek to the series and it’s definitely adorable!
A popular adaptation of webtoon Living Together, My Roommate is a Gumiho narrates the story of a handsome yet really old gumiho who has been trying to become a human for over 900 years.
The popular Naver webtoon boasts a rating of 9.97% since its serialization in 2017. For its drama adaptation, it will be penned by Baek Sun-woo and Choi Bo-rim (What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim), and directed by Nam Sung-woo (Kkondae Intern). It is jointly produced by leading production companies Studio Dragon and JTBC Studio.
A quirky cohabitation story
Suiting up to the role of the 999-year old gumiho Shin Woo-yeo, who dreams of becoming a human, is Jang Ki Yong. Charming with superb intellect to boot, he has been collecting human spirits in marbles to transform as a mortal. On the cusp of completing his dream though, a mishap happened.
He bumps into college student Lee Dam, played by Hyeri, who accidentally swallows his gumiho pearl without it he cannot become human. To find out how to extract the pearl from her body, she has no choice but to live in fear with him as her roommate for three months, a situation that brings about unexpected consequences.
In the released trailer, Jang Ki Yong and Hyeri are seen in a living room. When Hyeri felt cold, she knows just how to warm herself up by covering herself with Jang Ki Yong’s furry foxtail. Inviting fans, the lead stars hint at the living-together premise of the series set to premiere in May.
My Roommate is a Gumiho will be streamed exclusively on iQIYI International in May 2021, on www.iQ.com, or via the iQIYI mobile app. Subtitles for the show will also be available in 8 different languages.
