Gianna Jun Uncovers a Deadly Conspiracy in Disney+’s Political Thriller “Tempest”

Disney+’s original series Tempest casts Gianna Jun in a powerful new light as she takes on the role of Seo Moon-joo, a celebrated UN ambassador whose world is turned upside down when she becomes entangled in the aftermath of a political assassination.

Known for her poise on the global stage and unwavering commitment to peace, Moon-joo’s life takes a dramatic turn after she witnesses the murder of a presidential candidate during a mass for reunification. Her mission quickly becomes personal: find the mastermind behind the killing and expose a truth that could shake the entire Korean Peninsula.

Moon-joo isn’t alone in this dangerous pursuit. She is joined by San-ho, played by Kang Dong Won, a mysterious special agent with no clear allegiance but an unspoken duty to protect her. Together, they navigate a perilous web of secrets, political agendas, and threats that blur the lines between right and wrong.

From an early age, Moon-joo displayed a fierce sense of national pride—studying with the Taegeukgi (Korean flag) on her desk and dreaming of a world where diplomacy triumphed over conflict. After completing her studies in the United States, she rose through the ranks to become a respected diplomat and ultimately a UN ambassador, earning the global community’s trust by representing South Korea’s stance with intellect and grace.

Newly released character stills paint a vivid picture of Moon-joo’s dual identity: the dignified ambassador who commands attention at the UN podium and the determined truth-seeker jogging at dawn, eyes sharp and spirit unyielding. Her calm elegance masks a quiet strength, and it’s this complexity that drew Jun Ji-hyun to the role. “She’s quiet yet strong and resilient—a character I can truly challenge myself with as an actress,” she shared.

Screenwriter Jeong Seo-kyung, known for her intricate storytelling, revealed that Gianna Jun had been her first choice from the outset. “From the very beginning of the story, Moon-joo was Gianna Jun. I kept thinking about which shade of her diverse acting spectrum to bring to life,” she said, heightening anticipation for what promises to be a riveting performance.

Tempest premieres on Disney+ with a three-episode launch on September 10. Afterward, two episodes will be released weekly starting September 17, culminating in a total of nine gripping episodes. Featuring political intrigue, emotional depth, and an urgent fight for justice, Tempest is set to shine brightly in the world of prestige K-drama thrillers.
