Kang Dong Won Brings Edge, Elegance, and Action to Disney+’s “Tempest”

Kang Dong Won is set to intrigue audiences as Baek San-ho, a special agent shrouded in mystery, in Disney+’s upcoming spy melodrama Tempest, premiering September 10.

The series follows Moon-joo (Gianna Jun), a celebrated UN ambassador, as she hunts the mastermind behind a presidential candidate’s assassination. Alongside her is San-ho — the ace of a global mercenary firm whose nationality and true motives remain unknown — sworn to protect her as a dangerous truth threatens the Korean Peninsula.

Marking his first foray into the spy melodrama genre, Kang Dong Won embodies San-ho with layered charisma: a battle-hardened special forces veteran with an impeccable mission record, yet a man defined as much by quiet resolve as by explosive action. His life collides with Moon-joo’s when he saves her in the chaos of an assassination attempt, sparking a tense partnership rooted in survival.

New stills tease his multifaceted allure — from a wary bus stop meeting with Moon-joo, to a gun poised in deadly precision, to his ever-alert gaze scanning for threats. Co-star Jun Ji-hyun praised their on-screen synergy, describing their scenes as “natural and comfortable,” while director Kim Hee-won lauded Kang for bringing both gentleness and intensity to San-ho, elevating the drama’s tension and depth.

Tempest will drop its first three episodes on September 10, followed by two episodes weekly from September 17, totaling nine gripping installments.
