A storm is coming, and it’s political, personal, and deadly!
Prepare to be swept into a world of secrets, betrayal, and global intrigue in Tempest, the highly anticipated spy thriller launching September 10 exclusively on Disney+. This gripping nine-part series boasts a stellar international cast, a razor-sharp storyline, and the long-awaited Disney+ debut of Korean screen queen Gianna Jun, marking her return to TV in spectacular fashion.
Featured in Tempest is an assassination attempt that shakes the Korean peninsula to its core. When a presidential candidate is targeted and accused of being a North Korean spy, former diplomat Seo Munju (Gianna Jun) is drawn into the explosive aftermath. What starts as a political scandal quickly spirals into a globe-spanning conspiracy involving rogue nations, covert intelligence agencies, and high-ranking officials—even reaching the White House. With the geopolitical landscape teetering on the brink of collapse, Munju must untangle a web of lies while navigating deadly attacks and hidden agendas.
By her side, though not entirely trustworthy, is Paik Sanho (Kang Dong Won), a highly trained operative with a mysterious past and dangerous ties. As tension escalates and bullets fly, Sanho’s mission becomes twofold: protect Munju and suppress his growing emotions before they cloud his judgment.
The ensemble cast includes an impressive mix of international and Korean stars:
-
John Cho (Star Trek, Searching) as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Anderson
-
Michael Gaston (Bridge of Spies, Daredevil: Born Again) as Secretary of Defense Eagleton
-
Park Hae Joon as the enigmatic presidential candidate Jang Junik
-
Christopher Gorham, Lee Misook, Spencer Garrett, and more, adding layers of complexity and conflict to the narrative
Directed by Kim Heewon (Queen of Tears, Vincenzo) and co-directed by Korea’s top action choreographer Heo Myeonghaeng (The Roundup: Punishment, Badland Hunters), Tempest is scripted by award-winning writer Chung Seokyung (Decision to Leave, Little Women). The result is a gripping blend of political drama, espionage action, and emotional depth that redefines the Korean spy genre.
Tempest will premiere with a three-episode drop on September 10, followed by two new episodes each week, culminating in an intense two-part finale on October 1.

As Disney+ continues to raise the bar with Korean originals like Nine Puzzles, Moving, and A Shop for Killers, Tempest is poised to be its boldest, most globally ambitious series yet.
