Poised to deliver a sizzling love triangle with a deliciously dark twist, The Haunted Palace is a tale of bodies and souls entangled, where first love morphs into fierce enmity in the blink of an eye.
The Haunted Palace is already stirring excitement with latest teasers showcasing the intense and ever-changing relationship between Yook Sung Jae and Kim Ji Yeon. Their dynamic, shifting between tender first love and sharp hostility, hints at a love story filled with unexpected twists and turns.
Set to premiere on April 18, the drama follows Yeo-ri, a powerful shaman who refuses to accept her destined role, and Kang Chul, an ancient imoogi (serpentine spirit) that becomes trapped in the body of Yoon Gap, Yeo-ri’s first love. As they confront a vengeful eight-faced serpentine ghost harboring deep resentment toward the royal family, their bodies and souls become intertwined in ways they never anticipated.
Bringing this spellbinding story to life is director Yoon Sung-sik, renowned for his work on Mr. Queen, Bridal Mask, Daejoyeong, and The Best Lee Soon-sin. He joins forces with screenwriter Yoon Soo-jung, the mastermind behind The King’s Face and Cheer Up, to create a drama that blends romance, fantasy, and historical intrigue.
Yook Sung Jae takes on the challenging role of Yoon Gap, a kind-hearted and intelligent young man whose life takes a drastic turn when he becomes possessed by the powerful imoogi, Kang Chul. As Kang Chul gains control, Yook’s character undergoes a striking transformation, displaying eccentric behavior and an aura of untouchable charisma.
Meanwhile, Kim Ji Yeon’s Yeo-ri is the only granddaughter of a renowned celestial deity, born with extraordinary spiritual abilities. However, rejecting her preordained fate, she instead chooses to live an ordinary life as an artisan crafting glasses.
Enchanted Entanglement
In the unveiled main poster, Kim Ji-yeon, the “pure white shaman Yeo-ri,” radiates an otherworldly charm. Her gaze, both resolute and enigmatic, draws you into a realm where mysticism and charisma intertwine. Behind her, lurking like a shadow, is Yook Sung-jae, the “evil god Imoogi.” His presence is a potent blend of possessive spirit and unwavering guardian, leaving us wondering: is he a curse or a protector?
But here’s where the intrigue deepens: the air crackles with a tangible animosity. Kim Ji-yeon’s icy demeanor, a whirlwind of disdain aimed at the very being inhabiting her first love’s form, speaks volumes. Meanwhile, Yook Sung-jae’s mischievous, almost arrogant stare, a stark contrast to his former innocence, paints a picture of a malevolent force revelling in the chaos.
This poster isn’t just a snapshot; it’s a narrative. It hints at a bizarre fate, a collision of bodies and souls, and a romance that defies all expectations. How did these two become so inextricably linked? What secrets lie within their tangled destinies?
Accordingly, the newly released stills hint at the striking contrast in Yoon Gap and Yeo-ri’s relationship. The first image captures a heart-fluttering moment between them, as Yoon Gap, dressed in a soft lavender robe, gazes at Yeo-ri with warmth and affection. His presence exudes the innocence of first love, while Yeo-ri, smiling radiantly in return, mirrors the joy of young romance.
However, the atmosphere takes a dramatic turn in the next stills. The warmth between them vanishes, replaced by electrifying tension as Kang Chul emerges within Yoon Gap’s body. His playful yet wicked expression reveals a completely different personality, instantly shifting their dynamic from sweet to confrontational. In one particularly amusing moment, Yeo-ri, visibly exasperated, covers Kang Chul’s mouth in frustration, emphasizing their bickering chemistry. Despite their clashes, their undeniable connection keeps them tethered to each other, sparking curiosity about how their love-hate relationship will unfold.
