Lim Ji Yeon Challenges Desperate and Beautiful Survival Fraud In “The Tale of Lady Ok”

The Tale of Lady Ok

Lim Ji Yeon is set to showcase a completely new side of herself as a runaway slave in the upcoming JTBC drama.

On October 23rd, the production team released the first stills of Lim in her role as Gu Deok, a slave who later assumes the identity of the fake Ok Tae-young.

The Tale of Lady Ok is a gripping survival drama centered on Ok Tae-young (played by Lim Ji-yeon), a woman living a life of deception, with a fake name, status, and husband. Alongside her is Cheon Seung-hwi (played by Choo Young Woo), a painter who risks everything to protect her.

Lim Ji Yeon’s character, Gu Deok, was born into slavery and suffered under a cruel master. Despite her intelligence, athletic skills, and kind nature, she conceals her talents to avoid the wrath of her vicious mistress. The released images show Gu Deok’s desperate escape, with her face bruised and body bloodied, as she clings to a bundle amid a snowstorm. The stills highlight her fierce struggle to survive as a human being beyond her social status.

The fate of a slave carried in a flower palanquin…

Previously, the show released a teaser poster featuring Lim Ji Yeon as Gu Deok, a slave who assumes the false identity of Ok Tae-young.

Accordingly, the teaser poster highlights the stark contrast in Gu Deok’s fate, as a slave dressed in rags rides in a richly decorated flower palanquin. The luxurious decorations around her sharply contrast with her worn-out appearance, symbolizing her life that defies her birth status. Despite her shabby clothing and the scratch on her face, Gu Deok-yi’s poised posture and mysterious elegance hint at a deeper complexity within her character.

The tagline, “The fate of a slave carried in a flower palanquin,” along with her anxious yet confident expression, teases the internal conflict Gu Deok faces as she takes on the role of Miss Ok Tae-young. The story promises to explore the psychological depth of a woman forced to live a life far removed from her origins to survive.

Commenting on her role, Lim Ji Yeon expressed her curiosity about portraying a character with two distinct identities and explained that she chooses roles based on whether they challenge her to show something new. She found this project a perfect fit for revealing a side of herself not previously seen on screen.

Lim Ji Yeon’s portrayal of this desperate yet beautiful survival fraud is set to captivate viewers when The Tale of Lady Ok premieres on November 30, at 10:30 PM.
