“Unknown Seoul” Peeks at Park Jin Young in Character as Brilliant Yet Vulnerable Lawyer

Park Jin Young suits up as earnest lawyer Lee Ho-soo in Unknown Seoul.

Park Jin-young is set to showcase a deeply nuanced transformation in tvN’s upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama Unknown Seoul, premiering May 24 at 9:20 PM KST. The drama, penned by Lee Kang and directed by Park Shin-woo, unfolds as a romantic coming-of-age tale centered around twin sisters who, despite sharing the same face, lead completely different lives—until a lie forces them to switch places and discover love and identity in unexpected ways.

In the series, Park Jin Young plays Lee Ho-soo, a picture-perfect ace lawyer at a top law firm—handsome, intelligent, and principled. While he appears to have it all, underneath the surface lies a man quietly wrestling with the desire for a simple, unremarkable life. He is steady and reserved, someone who speaks with care and carries an unspoken burden behind his calm demeanor.

Everything begins to shift for Ho-soo when an unforeseen encounter disrupts his well-organized world, sending ripples through his seemingly composed life. What force will shake his guarded heart? The drama teases a stirring inner journey as Lee Ho-soo confronts emotions he’s long kept at bay.

Reflecting on his initial connection to the character, Park Jin-young shared, “While reading the script, the characters’ attempts to live well while hiding their deep inner wounds felt like us. I chose the project because I was deeply curious about how I would portray the character of Ho-soo.

He further elaborated on his interpretation of Lee Ho-soo, stating, “I thought of him as a character going through puberty before becoming an adult. The charm of Ho-soo came across as his sincerity in trying not to hurt others by hiding his wounds inside rather than showing them.

To embody this nuanced character, Park Jin-young focused on subtle acting choices. “I wanted viewers to remember Ho-soo as someone who has a lot of lines but is reserved,” he explained, adding, “I tried to speak slowly and built the character by slowing down the breathing of his lines.” This deliberate approach fuels curiosity about his on-screen performance.

Finally, Park Jin-young described ‘Unknown Seoul’ as “a work that contains the story of Mi-ji and Mirae growing while living in each other’s stead.” He also highlighted a key element to watch for: “I think the thrill of being caught but not being caught is the biggest fun of Unknown Seoul,” teasing the intricate relationship between the twins Mi-ji and Mi-rae Yoo and his character, Lee Ho-soo.

Unknown Seoul is poised to deliver both heart and suspense when it hits screens on May 24.
