Shadows, Secrets, and Desperation Collide in Walking on Thin Ice” Starring Lee Young Ae, Kim Young Kwang, and Park Yong Woo

KBS 2TV’s upcoming Saturday-Sunday miniseries Walking on Thin Ice has dropped character posters that crackle with tension and mystery.

Premiering September 20, Walking on Thin Ice follows the perilous alliance between Kang Eun-soo—a mother willing to cross any line to protect her family—and Lee Kyung, a charming art instructor hiding a dark secret: he’s also a drug dealer. When their lives are upended by fate, the two are drawn into a tense dance of trust, suspicion, and survival, all while being hunted by Jang Tae-goo, the relentless leader of a narcotics team determined to dismantle the “Phantom” drug ring.

Helmed by genre-bending director Song Hyun-wook and penned by Jeon Young-shin, known for tight storytelling and realistic grit, the series promises an addictive blend of suspense, emotional depth, and unpredictable twists.

The newly released posters are as layered as the characters themselves. Bathed in stark contrasts of light and shadow, they evoke the thin line between hope and despair—a recurring motif in the story.

Lee Young Ae’s Kang Eun-soo appears on the edge of breaking, her eyes glistening with a mix of plea and determination. Her tagline—“Please close your eyes just this once”—is less a request and more a desperate bargain, hinting at moral lines she’s about to cross.

Kim Young Kwang’s Lee Kyung leans into ambiguity with the line, “Don’t be curious about me.” His expression is a puzzle—half smirk, half warning—inviting viewers to question whether he’s a reluctant ally, a dangerous manipulator, or something far more complex. The poster captures his duality: daylight charm against the encroaching darkness of his secret life.

Then there’s Park Yong Woo as Jang Tae-goo whose very gaze feels like a lock on his target. His words—“How can you possibly hope to receive my attention for the rest of your life?”—are chilling in their confidence, underscoring his methodical nature and unshakable resolve to hunt down those involved in the drug network. Every inch of his stance radiates the control of a man who never misses his mark.

The production team notes that these posters don’t just present the characters—they reveal the emotional undercurrents driving them. “They capture the situations each of Kang Eun-soo, Lee Kyung, and Jang Tae-goo are in, their relationships and emotions, and even the desires hidden behind them,” they said. “Please look forward to the performances of Lee Young-ae, Kim Young-kwang, and Park Yong-woo, who will captivate viewers this fall.

Featuring a blend of moral dilemmas, shadowy alliances, and the kind of suspense that thrives in the space between light and dark, Walking on Thin Ice is shaping up to be one of the season’s most compelling dramas. September 20 can’t come soon enough.
