Promising healing and romance, Welcome To Samdalri evokes warmth because of the lead stars’ bright smiles.
Welcome to Samdalri traverses the long connection shared by Jo Yong-pil (Ji Chang Wook) and Jo Sam-dal (Shin Hye Sun).
They share a long history of friendship. They were born in Jeju, five minutes apart on the same day.
From then on, they attended the same school from elementary to college. The Polaroid photos look into the history of the close friends. They also share smiles and affection with each other’s families.
However, their inseparable connection came to a pause. Yong-pil decides to stay in their hometown but Sam-dal pursues a new life in Seoul.
Still, the emotions and memories shared over the past 30 years cannot be easily ignored. The two friends reunite when Sam-dal returns to their hometown.
Prospective viewers are curious about what kind of history and memories will be contained in each Polaroid photo, and what kind of ‘grieving and heartbreaking’ history they will write in the future.
A story of ordinary people with nothing special
Following the last poster showing 30 years of friendship shared by Yong-pil and Samdal, the series drops the chemistry between the once inseparable friends.
The bright smile on their faces makes those who see it feel happy as well.
Set in Samdal-ri, the town with its wide blue sea, is a clean specialty area where you can feel at ease even if you just stay for a while.
There are various people there, including divers and fishermen who go out to sea every day; the Meteorological Administration staff who protect them so they can continue their daily lives and businesses safely; the friends of Yongpil and Samdal, who went to Seoul and eventually returned to their hometown; the so-called ‘Five Eagle Brothers’, etc. They gather and live happily together.
It is said that the story of the people of Samdal-ri, full of human scent, will become a resting place for those who are weary. They can stop for a moment and catch their breath while enjoying the beautiful story. The same is true for Samdal, who experienced an unexpected and tremendous incident in Seoul and returned to Gaecheon’s arms in complete despair.
The production team said, “Welcome to Samdalri is a story about healing wounds and gaining strength to stand up again in a stream as warm as a mother’s arms through people’s warmth and compassion. Even as adults, the life of the characters is still delicate and immature. We hope that viewers will also receive warmth and the strength to stand up again through the healing time the drama promises. Welcome to Samdalri is for anyone who has been running so fast that they are out of breath and need to catch their breath.”
