Welcome to Samdalri traverses the long connection shared by Jo Yong-pil (Ji Chang Wook) and Jo Sam-dal (Shin Hye Sun).
The two have a long history of friendship. They were born in Jeju, five minutes apart on the same day.
From then on, they attended the same school from elementary to college. They also share smiles and affection with each other’s families.
However, their inseparable connection came to a pause. Yong-pil decides to stay in their hometown but Sam-dal pursues a new life in Seoul.
Still, the emotions and memories shared over the past 30 years cannot be easily ignored. The two friends reunite when Sam-dal returns to their hometown.

Resting on a beach in Samdalri, a place where the blue sea spreads endlessly, Yong-pil and Sam-dal feel the warm sunlight and the invigorating breeze in their hometown.
There is a teaching that divers of Jeju Island consider important: “Don’t be greedy today, just stay for as long as you can.” This means that in the seemingly peaceful but dangerous sea, you should not dive too long. When you can’t hold on any longer, come up to the water where you started and catch your breath.
This core theme that runs through Welcome to Samdalri is also revealed in the poster’s copy: “The moment we begin to catch our breath.”
Sam-dal, who left for Seoul dreaming of becoming successful, lived an intense life ever since. To pursue her dream of becoming a photographer, she went through the harsh life of an assistant in the difficult world of fashion photography and was finally able to rise to the top.
She ran so hard for her career, but an incident triggered a serious fall. From there, she heads back to her hometown that she never wanted to return to. In her hometown, Yong-pil, her destined partner, wants to become a haven where Sam-dal, who is exhausted in body and mind while bearing emotional wounds can take a breather.
It was an unwanted comeback, but Sam-dal and Yong-pil will learn how to catch their breath in the warm embrace of the sea. The story of those who try to stand up with their feet firmly planted on the ground without being swept away by the busy world with no time to come to their senses is expected to provide a warm moment for viewers as well.
