Chief Detective 1958 Episodes 3 and 4 Highlights
Officially recruited to the team, Seo Ho-jeong (Yoon Hyun Soo) joins Yeong-han, Sang-sun and Gyeong-hwan.
When they were tasked by Superintendent Choi to catch the beggars, Yeong-han took the opportunity to put the beggars on their side.
Goryeo Bank Robbery Case
A serial robbery has ensued in Suwon alarming the people. True to what Yeong-han and his team deduced, the robbers set their way to Seoul.
Against Superintendent Choi’s command to have all the police at an important meeting, Yeong-han and the team proceed with their plan to protect Goryeo Bank. Sang-sun takes the guard duty but the interruption causes the robbers to take Hye-ju who was at the bank to deposit some money.
Yeong-han pretends to be the driver of the robbers and with the help of Hye-ju’s crazy woman-acting skit, they are able to pin down the culprits.
Angel House Baby Abduction Cases
When a distressed mother is disregarded by one of the police officers in the station, Sang-sun kindly helps her and the team discovers the mysterious death of 10 babies.
Their investigation leads them to Angel House, an orphanage headed by Audrey Ko who has strong ties to the elite and powerful in Seoul. She is involved in sending babies for adoption in the US.
The team gets the driver and the secretary but both profess that Audrey Ko is innocent. Fortunately, Sang-sun gets one of the children in the orphanage who knew about the dead abducted babies. He was able to give crucial information that helped with the arrest of the remorseless villain.
Chief Detective 1958 Episodes 3 and 4 Musings
Chief Yu’s team is off to a good start in the first two cases they worked hard to solve. It seems like more interesting stories will be featured as each episode might tackle different crime-busting situations for the team.
We got another flashback of Yeong-han’s nightmare as well as the back story about Sang-sun growing up in an orphanage. Most likely Ho-jeong and Gyeong-hwan will also have their share of spotlight in the coming episodes. Another development this week is the blossoming romance between Yeong-han and Hye-ju.
Interestingly, comparing the investigation in the ’60s and at present for cases like bank robbery and child abduction, we can note how the methods before relied more on knowledge and careful deduction.
Retro crime stories of course have a tendency to be more appreciated for the “extra effort” given that technology was not as advanced as before. Sadly, this also emphasizes that even with existing strict laws, evil people can be effortlessly dauntless.
Carrying a refreshing humor, this series is an easy watch perfect to cap off your weekend!
