See You In My 19th Life Episodes 5 and 6 Highlights
Settling the drunk Seo-ha to his place, Ji-eum was halted when she was about to leave. In a state of delirium, while dreaming about the accident, Seo-ha holds Ji-eum hand.
Witnessed by Cho-won, she recalls the bitterness she had with Seo-ha blaming him for losing her sister.
“I think I like Ban Ji-eum. She keeps reminding me of Ju-won and it’s making me crazy.”
The next day, Seo-ha is in a complete mess. His thoughts are occupied by the strange familiarity he feels around Ji-eum like how he used to feel with Ju-won.
Later, he confesses his situation to Do-yun and when they went out for a quick getaway, Seo-ha asks if she has a habit of crying after drinking. He tells her how he felt like he can strangely sympathize with her emotions.
In response, Ji-eum asks her first of the three questions but Seo-ha did not give her a response. She then leads him to dance like they’re the only people in that time and space. But when the rain poured, they had to go back inside Cho-won’s family’s vacation house nearby. Drenched with water, Ji-eum takes an early rest.
After tucking Ji-eum in, Cho-won finds Seo-ha and he finally explains how his choice to avoid her was because she reminds him of Ju-won. Witnessing the two makes amend, Do-yun faintly smiles for the two people he cares about.
“You said I’m your first love. My first love didn’t work out for me. It will be the same for you.”
Waking up refreshed, Ji-eum walks around the place familiar to her. Finding a toy that she hid inside the grandfather’s clock, she also goes to see Cho-won’s height record and all of these were witnessed by Cho-won and overheard by Seo-ha.
After evading Cho-won’s confrontational questions, Ji-eum follows Seo-ha who went out for a walk. She also gets turned down to her first “I-like-you” confession.
Back in Seoul, Seo-ha confronts his step-mom about missing funds in the hotel. His day gets busier when Ji-eum’s brother uses his sister to help him out with loan sharks demanding money payment.
When they spot Seo-ha outside the hotel, they bring home to a secluded place and try to get money. Ji-eum who was alerted of the situation rushes to where they are. But Seo-ha already took care of the gang singlehandedly with Do-jin helping him out.
The siren wails which drove out the loan sharks. But instead of the police, Seo-ha and Do-jin see Ji-eum emerging with a megaphone carrying the sound of the siren.
In a private talk, Seo-ha tells Ji-eum how he noticed her dauntless attitude like she’s not scared of anything. But she replies that she’s only scared of him. Ji-eum inches closer when Seo-ha responds how he especially likes his first love’s innocent and kind eyes.
“Cho-won, look at me. I am Yoon Ju-won. I remember my past lives. In my past life, I am Yoon Ju-won.”
Ji-eum’s day also gets busier when she received a phone call from Cho-won. Arriving at the place where Cho-won is almost done drinking a bottle of liquor, Ji-eum listens to her rant about her ulterior motive. She questions why she seems playing with their emotions.
Cho-won inevitably burst into tears so Ji-eum confesses who she really is. She even blurts out things that only people close to Cho-won would know. Baffled at the revelation, Cho-won goes home and gets confirmation of all details Ji-eum mentioned from her mom.
Taking a day off to hunt down the loan shark boss, Ji-eum brings a Goryeo celadon to pay her brother’s debt. The latter also overhears how the boss was involved in Seo-ha’s accident which killed the wrong child.
Maximizing her time, she also helps out at Ae-gyeong’s restaurant as she also noticed how she has been looking frail. She is not aware that she was hospitalized and Ae-gyeong who was helped by part-timer Min-gi (Lee Chae Min) was also asked by Ae-gyeong not to share her current condition.
Just when she was missing Seo-ha while helping out Ae-gyeong in her restaurant, Ji-eum sees the man she misses and makes an excuse that he was only curious why she took a day off. Her penchant for putting herself in danger also worries him. Served with a yummy dish at Ae-gyeong’s restaurant, Ji-eum stares at Seo-ha as he munches his food.
Cho-won receives a phone call from her mother who was curious about why she suddenly went home last time to ask things about her sister. Her mother also mentions how Ju-won once promised her that she will remember her in her next life.
“I’m going to believe you. I want to believe it. If I found out later that you are lying, I will not forgive you.”
She rushes back to meet Ji-eum and tells her that she will believe the crazy confession she said about being Ju-won in her previous life. Cho-won warns that she will not forgive her if she found out later that she’s lying. Then, she runs to hug her sister whom she dearly missed.
Returning the embrace she got from her little sister, the two didn’t notice Min-gi’s presence who called Han-na (Lee Han Na). He mentions Ji-eum reconnecting to her previous life’s family will cause a problem and she seems unaware of it.
The next day, Ji-eum requests Cho-won to act like before at work since they’ve been sisters in her previous life. Unknown to them, Do-yun was there and heard their entire conversation. The two made him promise to keep their conversation a secret.
Meanwhile, Ji-eum’s brother contacts Seo-ha who reveals what he accidentally heard about the accident that killed Ju-won. Seo-ha goes to meet the boss of Wonjo Capital and gives him a week to give the details of the accident.
Worried about Seo-ha, Ji-eum also goes to Wonjo Capital and learns that the accident really murdered her. However, she also fails to get the man behind the accident.
At that same moment, Seo-ha receives a message about the truth behind Do-yun’s father. That he is the driver who also died in the accident. He goes to meet Do-yun and settles their frustration with a quick brawl.
Determined to wash away his pain with soju, Seo-ha finds Ji-eum sitting in front of his house. He asks her to give him an embrace which she gladly gives.
See You In My 19th Life Episodes 5 and 6 Musings
Picking up its pace, See You In My 19th Life adds complex scenarios and plot details that are intended to heighten the tension of the series.
Given the introductions of the new characters, the series is poised to elaborate the fantasy aspect of the narrative.
Ji-eum is not aware that revealing her identity to her previous family will cause problems. Generally speaking, reincarnation believes that people we meet in our current lives are also the people whom we’ve met in our previous lives.
If See You In My 19th Life follows this rule, we can assume that more details of character entanglements in Ji-eum’s previous lives that matter in her current life will be unveiled.
If the story would align with Ae-gyeong’s situation, then the impact of knowing Ji-eum’s secret would fall on people who became aware of Ji-eum’s identity in her present life. Following this conjecture, if say Seo-ha also stumbles on it, it will pose another heartbreaking concern in the series.
Hinted this week is how Ji-eum is not just the only person who can remember her past lives. That other people can do so. In fact, Han-na is giving off the vibe of Seo-ha’s reincarnated mother. Still, it is too early to tell.
Shaping up to be the culminating conflict is discovering who planned the accident meant for Seo-ha which also took Ju-won’s life.
Will Seo-ha and Ji-eum find out soon what actually happened that unfortunate day?
