The First Responders Episode 3 Highlights
Settling into his new apartment, the rumor about it being haunted hit Ho-gae, right away. Unbelieving in ghosts, he utilizes his detective skills. Soon enough, he found an irregularity.
“Reading is food for the mind, and statements are food for investigation.”
Subsequently, the initial no-arson investigation result was also lifted and Do-jin determined the fire accelerant that he missed before. Relaying his thoughts based on the statements and investigation notes, Chief Baek is baffled by Ho-gae’s train of thought which seemingly resembles an expert killer.
Working on the case, Ho-gae suspected the victim’s former fiancée named Mi-young, to be involved in the murder and arson. He goes to interview the fiancée with Pil and senses something suspicious about her when he drops a bait statement that her ex-lover was sighted.
“No one knows what happens between a man and a woman.”
Camping outside his unit, Ho-gae rushed Do-jin to let him use his bathroom to relieve himself. There they found a clue about where the bones of the victim are hidden. The autopsy confirms to be the missing victim.
Meanwhile, Do-jin realizes a newspaper was used to make the fire crawl, to the victim’s unit. Thus, affirming that it was Mi-young’s doing. The latter since the visit from the police has been feeling unsettled as she sees visions of her ex-lover Tae-hoon.
Planning to turn herself in, Mi-young almost put a police officer in peril when she tossed flammable liquid on his clothing. Fortunately, Ho-gae arrives to subdue her.
During questioning, it was revealed that Mi-young’s relationship with Tae-hoon was disappointing. He keeps on abusing her and even used the knowledge of her having an abortion to make her do as he pleases.
She then resorts to murdering him, but unknown to her the document Tae-hoon used to blackmail her was forged.

This episode also provided a glimpse of the relationship between Ho-gae and his chief prosecutor father who is deemed against the idea of him working in the police force.
Notably, the featured painful relationship from once-lovers that went awry is a familiar story for almost everyone. Therefore, it was engrossing to have that post-drama watching moment of what toxic relationships can lead to.
A reality that is hard to be mediated by the law, thus, having a high risk of complicating situations. Just like how the murder happened in the featured story in this episode.
