The Interest of Love Episode 2 Highlights

“Some opportunities may seem fair, but they are subtly discriminatory as well.”

The second episode opens with a flashback scene of Su-yeong going to Seoul for the first time. Looking mournful, she looks for an apartment and takes on various jobs just to get by. One day, she decides to apply for a position in a bank only to experience discrimination for being a high school graduate.

The Interest of Love Episode 2

“Do you also study on the weekends?”

Heading back to the bank, Sang-su strikes up a conversation with Jong-hyun to know whether he is dating Su-yeong. He pries about Jong-hyun being busy in preparing for his exams and how he must have no time to date. Getting the answer he wants, Sang-soo looks ecstatic after hearing that he’s too busy to date.

“How about a blind date, Su-yeong?”

When they get off to work after encountering a stubborn customer, Su-yeong was invited by her co-worker to take her place on a blind date. With her superiors prying over her dating life, she was compelled to agree on the date to shut them off for assuming that she is in a relationship. Looking confused and slightly upset, Sang-su is behind the door listening to the entire conversation.

Sunbae. Don’t you remember me? It’s Mi-gyeong.”

With the arrival of the new assistant manager Park Mi-gyeong, the KCU Youngpo branch gains another member. Right off the bat, she and Sang-su were tasked to be in charge of the modification of their banking app. It turns out they went to the same school in college. Mi-gyeong invites Sang-su to dinner and Su-yeong sees them and looks annoyed.

The Interest of Love Episode 2

“Should two people from similar backgrounds get married just to maintain the lifestyles they’re used to even though they’re not in love?”

Confronting and asking Su-yeong about her relationship with Jong-hyeon and her supposed blind date, Sang-su finds it hard to grasp the real situation. However, she asserts that it’s none of his business and roots for him and Mi-gyeong, straight-faced telling him that they look good together.

“Am I not allowed to like her?”

At home, Sang-su can’t stop thinking about her until Gyeong-pil comes with alcohol and invites him to drink but he refuses. Gyeong-pil figures out that Sang-su has been feeling down because of Su-yeong.

He poses a question to his friend to know how serious he feels for her and if he considers marrying her. Making Sang-su ponder on the repercussions of dating a colleague, Gyeong-pil asks if he is ready to handle the gossips that would follow if they break up.

Proving that he is determined to win Su-yeong’s heart, Sang-su goes to her home and waits for her return. When she gets off the taxi, she did not notice him and hurriedly runs somewhere. To Sang-su’s surprise, she runs to Jong-hyeon and hugs him.

The Interest of Love Episode 2 Musings

Confined and a little unsatisfying, the dragging disclosure of the reason behind’s Su-yeong cold treatment of Sang-su is baffling. Nonetheless, it does keep the intriguing factor.

Based on the flashback scene, it suggested that Su-yeong saw something as Sang-su approached the building. It’s scary how she shifted from being excited to burning with rage.

What happened surely is pivotal that made her change in an instant and Sang-su hasn’t figured out the reason. There are a lot of possibilities but the truth is still a big question mark for now.

While Sang-su appears to be transparent about what he feels, Su-yeong on the other hand has a façade that is so different from what she’s truly inside.

From the beginning, she narrated that people drew lines because of background differences and that she was on the other side of the line. It could be interpreted that she simply stayed in her circle and put up her walls for the same reason. The sad thing about it is that it prevents her from building solid relationships.

It’s understandable as some people could shove those differences straight into your face and make you feel small without looking at who you truly are as a person.

Take for example her extremely nosy and annoyingly intrusive superiors. I just don’t get why they are so eager to pry over her private life when Su-yeong is uncomfortable talking about her personal matters. After all, they are not close. They just can’t take a hint. (ugh)

While the recent episode put the spotlight on Sang-su, Su-yeong and Mi-gyeong, let’s hope to see more of Jong-hyeon in the future.
