I didn’t expect The Spies Who Loved Me will move fast to reveal the truth about Ji-hoon’s real job in episode 4.
However, while the plot is quick to its trajectory the energy seems declining. While this chapter presented all the things that led to Ah-reum and Ji-hoon’s failed marriage, it felt too dragging to have them use the entire episode quelling their what-ifs and misconceptions.

The Spies Who Loved Me Episode 4 Key Moments
Ji-hoon’s Regret
Checking his team about Sophie’s investigation progress, Director Ban is not happy to learn about losing a lead.
He orders Ji-hoon to come clean to Ah-reum about his real occupation so they can investigate accordingly.
Ji-hoon looks back on the past that caused his marriage to fail. His constant traveling deepened the rift between him and Ah-reum. One dangerous mission in Baghdad even almost caused his life scaring Ah-reum who harbors guilt of not being able to protect her father when he died along one winter night.
That same mission brought pain to Ji-hoon who lost his informer whose sister was kidnapped. Knowing his job will just hurt Ah-reum in the long run because of the nature of his job, albeit really loving her, he let her go after 18 months of marriage where he is mostly missing.
Ah-reum’s Agony
Knowing Ji-hoon well, Director Ban forces a surprise meeting between Ah-reum and Ji-hoon. The latter eventually spills everything.
Upset of being lied to, Ah-reum can’t believe the request to cooperate with the investigation. She rants how she did not care back then about him not being a good provider when she only asked to be cared for.
Ji-hoon can only apologize for everything. Realizing he failed to protect her friend, Ah-reum told Ji-hoon not to apologize to her, but to Sophie.
They again meet at a shooting range where Ah-reum disclose how she has been seeking the hobby he taught her when her tummy aches worsened.
The Spies Who Loved Me Episode 4 Musings
Ah-reum and Ji-hoon’s love story took the bulk of this episode to push for how the plot will move when it gets more serious to the probing on Sophie’s death ahead.
Honestly, the series has been dragging in the last three episodes because of improper downplay of its spy-romance elements. Of course, ever the positive me will hope that all these preparations will matter in the succeeding episodes.
There’s nothing much that I can say right now but fully being impressed on the plastered creepy-smiling face of Lim Ju Hwan. The three finally meeting in the last scenes with the light shattering preludes to probable real beginning of showdowns between Ah-reum and the two spies who love her.
Takeaway Quotes
“If I needed someone to pay of my debts, I wouldn’t have married you. That’s not the reason why I married you in the first place. I just someone by my side.” – Ah-reum
“When I met you, I didn’t feel alone for the first time in my life.” – Ji-hoon
