All That We Loved is a story about youth, friendship and young love. The story revolves around high school students Go Yoo, Go Jun Hee and Han So Yeon. Yoo and Jun Hee are best friends and practically like brothers. They are well taken care of by Jun Hee’s Grandmother since they were young because Yoo has busy parents who are both doctors.
Although they grew up together, they have different personalities. Go Yoo excels in sports and is a basketball star while Jun Hee is always at the top of his class and loves studying. Han So Yeon is a transfer student with a mysterious personality. She doesn’t easily open up to others.
In the present timeline, we see that psychiatrist Dr. Go is trying to find his long-lost best friend. He also gets a surprise visit from Han So Yeon who is now a popular actress. So Yeon tries to reconnect with Dr. Go by visiting him often and even booking an appointment just to see and talk to him.
As they slowly warm up to each other, So Yeon tries to explain her past behavior to Dr. Goo. Her urge for stealing things. Dr. Go says it can be cured with proper treatment.

Evidently, the friendship between Go Yoo and Jun Hee is a one-of-a-kind treat in All That We Loved. Go Yoo is always there to help Jun Hee if someone bullies him at school. When they found out that Jun Hee suffers from chronic renal failure just like his older brother did. Go Yoo did not think twice to donate his kidney to his friend.
Also exploring psychological conditions through the perspectives of the characters, the rumor surrounding the new student Han So Yeon about her stealing things led to her transferring schools was also highlighted.
Featured in the series is Cellular Memory Syndrome. After getting his kidney from Go Yoo. Jun Hee starts to observe the changes that are happening to him. For instance, he is a left-handed person, but after the surgery, he starts writing with his right hand also. His eyesight also improved a lot and he does not need to wear his eyeglasses anymore.
His urge to fight against injustice also becomes noticeable. He also became allergic to peanuts just like Go Yoo. And lastly, he became attracted to the girl that Go Yoo likes which is So Yeon.
Go Yoo and Jun Hee’s friendship starts to get awry when they have opposite opinions about the stealing rumors of Han So Yeon. Go Yoo can accept the fact that So Yeon is stealing and showing no remorse but Jun Hee wants to understand why So Yeon is doing such a thing. He believes there must be a reason behind it. So Yeon had had enough of being called a thief and decided to drop out of school to study abroad.
After Jun Hee’s grandmother’s death (which made us all cry), he was invited to stay in Go Yoo’s house and can stay there as long as he likes. Jun Hee agrees to the invitation of Go Yoo’s mom. But after a week, Jun Hee suddenly disappeared without anyone knowing. He just left a letter and his grandmother’s necklace to Go Yoo.
A familiar tune of youth story with gratifying closure
For K-Drama fans, expecting anything grand from the beginning to end of All That We Loved is not encouraged since there are enough dramas with similar themes.
It was a case of wanting to finish the drama and move on to the next one.
Nevertheless, the ending of this series draws smiles and gives hope. It makes viewers believe that a real friendship really has no end. No matter how long you’ve been apart from each other. When you see each other again, you forget all the drama and just want to reconnect again, like nothing happened.
A small misunderstanding can ruin a friendship or any relationship for that matter. Han So Yeon may be a factor in their misunderstanding during their teenage years, but she is also the reason the three of them reunites in the present.
It was also nice that the story hinted that maybe Go Yoo and Han So Yeon will have the chance to get their happy ever after.
Sehun’s portrayal of Go Yoo’s character is on point. He really did a good job. Even his expressions and nuances fit the 18-year-old student role.
While having merits of his own, Jo Joon Young’s average portrayal assumes growth in the future. At any rate, it’s not something to get disappointed in since there’s not much to expect in his character. Let’s hope his upcoming drama will showcase a new side of him.
Jang Yeo Bin is just right for Han So Yeon’s character because she can give that enigmatic vibe. For her first lead role, she did a decent job. Nothing special, just right.
All That We Loved is an easy Korean drama to pick up if you are looking for a short, youthful, and nostalgic narrative.
This is a chill drama with not much going on but when you watch until the end, it can make you happy.
