Hush Series Peak Points
Eye-opening Story to Multiple Realities
Presenting various stories from all walks of life, the series shows the different perspectives of people in society. It only started with the experiences of the Interns, but as the series goes along, viewers are able to gain an insight into the unemployed youth, working class, single mothers, and people of high positions.
Plights of part-time workers are featured in some episodes, as well as small business owners. Both sides are presented in a way that encourages critical thinking on who benefits the most while the two are in conflict.
Children of high-ranking officials and their privileges are also shown in the series. It reveals how indifferent they are to the hardships experienced by people from the lower classes. Moreover, they easily walk out of their crimes given that their parents have the capacity to manipulate various institutions.
Informative Lessons on Journalism
Other than the morals it has imparted, the series has also offered lessons on journalism and media. They clearly used the framing theory in the media by explicitly showing how news can influence people’s actions. Viewers are presented with the idea that this theory can be abused by people, especially conglomerates and politicians.
In addition to that, it emphasizes the role of setting the tone in reporting. It shows how a difference in tone could affect how people react to the opposing side of the story.
Collective Movement for Truth and Justice
Executives of media companies in the series are presented as people who are involved with illegal activities of politicians and conglomerates. Seeing how these affect people from all levels starting to the recruitment of interns, Han Jun Hyuk leads a team of reporters who also wish to pursue justice.
Their bond and purpose inspire viewers to uphold integrity no matter what position they are, to save a deteriorating society.
Hush Series Musings
Pointing out different problems existing in society, Hush truly has a lot to offer to its viewers. Romance is not the focus of the series, but it can pique the curiosity of people by its story like an exposé.
Casting Kim Won Hae who has been part of Misaeng, adds vibrance to the drama that features the workplace. In this drama, Im Yoon Ah became a respectable reporter from a big company compared to her role as a tabloid reporter in Prime Minister & I.
Hush is well-written as the title has a relevant role in the series. To hush about the truth brings detrimental consequences to society. Moreover, the food title for each episode interrelates with the events in the episode.
As it is a workplace drama, several issues are addressed such as the generation gap. Technological advancements may be there, but corruption can still transform and adapt to these developments. The unfair recruitment process, wherein one’s connections and university matters, gravitates the need for reformation in the workplace.
It presents how politics, business, and media are all interconnected in shaping the opinion of society. Big companies and politicians utilize the media in an attempt to serve their own personal interests. The power of the press is something that should not be underestimated as it has the power to shape the world.
A Clear Message about Indifference
The series gets more interesting at episode 10, being more eventful. At the start, it has already captivated viewers by presenting youth’s passion that can be abused by companies who partake in illegal recruitment practices. That story empathizes with people who work hard daily in order to secure a future we all wish for.
Hush tackles suicide and fake news that misuses the power of the press. Misreports and manipulation of the truth seem harmless as these can be followed up by a correction report. However, people can already have a set view about a certain issue even with false information. Thus, leading to negative reactions and hateful comments that damage one’s dignity.
What’s unique about this drama is its presentation of the heir of a big company. CEO’s are usually calm and handsome, appealing to most viewers. However, this drama shows even though the heir or the CEO is visually appealing, they could be cold and indifferent to people from lower classes. Its ending is realistic, showing how people of positions can be acquitted easily. Nonetheless, it also planted hope for a better tomorrow.
Media can be a double-edged sword, having the ability to pursue justice, and also side with the privileged. Unfair discrimination or a fair difference, Hush imparts that injustices draw indifference of society as its root cause.
