Netflix lines up the cast of the film, Loh Kiwan top-billed by Song Joong Ki and Choi Sung Eun.
Loh Kiwan is a film about the meeting, separation, and love between Ki-wan, a North Korean defector who arrives in Belgium with the last hope of life, and Mari, a woman who has lost her reason for living.
The film will depict Loh’s struggles in Belgium as a new settler and his encounter with Mari (Choi Sung Eun) who has grown despondent about life and love.
Adding to his decorated career is the first time Song Joong Ki portrays a North Korean defector. His previous drama projects, Reborn Rich and Vincenzo, have been small-screen hits as well as critically acclaimed.
In charge of the film is Kim Hee Jin of the 2010 indie film A Brand New Journey which won various awards at local film festivals including the Jeonju International Film Festival. Loh Kiwan will be her feature film debut.
Joining Song and Choi in the film are reliable and seasoned actors Jo Han Chul, Lee Il Hwa, Kim Sung Ryung, Lee Sang Hee and Seo Hyun Woo.
Through the turbulent journey and struggle of Ki-wan, a North Korean defector who had to escape for his life so he can live, and his encounter with Mari, who thinks there is no reason to live; Loh Kiwan will emphasize the feelings of caring for each other when pushed to the limit.
Loh Kiwan has commenced filming and plans to proceed to overseas locations such as Hungary in February.
