Song Joong Ki challenges a North Korean defector role in his upcoming film.
My Name is Loh Kiwan is set to launch on March 1 exclusively on Netflix.
It traverses the story of Loh Ki-wan (Song Joong Ki), a North Korean defector who arrived in Belgium with the last hope of life, and Marie (Choi Sung Eun), a woman who has lost her reason for living. Eventually, they both fell in love with each other.
The teaser poster introduced along with the confirmation of the release date showed Ki-wan standing alone in the crowd. In an unfamiliar land and among unfamiliar people, he shows his own firm resolve with his unwavering appearance and determined eyes.
The text on the poster reveals his goal: “I decided to survive in this land.” It foreshadows the difficult journey of Loh Ki-wan, who arrived in Belgium with his desperate will to survive.
Also, it stimulates curiosity about the story of a stranger who must prove his existence in an unfamiliar place where he does not speak the language.
The teaser trailer released together captures the difficult journey of Loh Ki-wan heading to Belgium alone. He anxiously and impatiently waits in front of the immigration inspection.
He finally arrives in Belgium, but the lonely reality of having to endure bitter cold and hunger in an unfamiliar place with nothing and no language to speak of is depressing.
However, in the face of the predicament that there is no way to prove that he came from North Korea, the sight of him collapsing on the cold floor as if he could not hold on any longer brings about regret. Mari (Choi Sung Eun) who wanders around, losing her reason for living appears in front of him.
It raises curiosity about how the two seemingly different people are intertwined and what they will face in the future. Among these, the voice of Loh Ki-wan, who says, “I have come this far with the determination to survive no matter how hell this earth is,” leaves a strong lingering impression.
My Name Is Loh Kiwan will be released in over 190 countries around the world through Netflix on Friday, March 1.
