Lee Min Ho Leaps from Webtoon to Big Screen in “Omniscient Reader”

Korean superstar Lee Min Ho is making a highly anticipated comeback to the silver screen after a decade, literally “tearing up the comic book” to embody a beloved character!

He’s set to captivate audiences as Yoo Joong-hyuk in the upcoming fantasy action film, Omniscient Reader, hitting theaters this July.

Adapted from the hit web novel that ran for over 10 years, Omniscient Reader tells the gripping story of Kim Dok-ja, the only person who read the novel to its end—only to watch the fictional world become reality on the day the final chapter is published. As society collapses around him, Dok-ja must team up with the novel’s original protagonist, Yoo Joong-hyuk, to survive the apocalyptic scenarios unfolding in the real world.

Lee Min Ho steps into the shoes of Yoo Joong-hyuk—a warrior forged through endless life-and-death cycles, blessed (or cursed) with the power of regression, allowing him to restart after every death. Stoic, battle-hardened, and emotionally scarred, Yoo Joong-hyuk is the ultimate survivor, and Lee Min-ho brings him to life with intensity, charisma, and depth.

This role marks Lee’s first movie project since Gangnam 1970 in 2015, making it a significant milestone in his career. Known globally as a Hallyu powerhouse with numerous hit dramas under his belt, Lee now reclaims the big screen spotlight with a performance that’s both action-packed and emotionally layered.

RELATED STORY

The story unfolds as Yoo Joong-hyuk meets Kim Dok-ja (played by Ahn Hyo-seop), a reader who knows everything about his past—and future. Their uneasy alliance begins on the ruins of Dongho Bridge, where trust doesn’t come easily. Despite Dok-ja’s admiration, Yoo Joong-hyuk puts him through rigorous tests, wary of betrayal. Their evolving dynamic—between a fan who knows the character better than anyone and the cold, hardened hero himself—promises a rich emotional journey.

Lee Min-ho delved deep into Yoo Joong-hyuk’s psyche, sharing, “I reflected a lot on the isolation of someone who lives endlessly alone. It was important to make Yoo Joong-hyuk feel real so that the audience could immerse themselves in his world and believe in the journey.

He also emphasized his dedication to the film’s physical demands: “This is a character who’s constantly fighting. I worked hard on choreographing the action scenes, and I focused on making every move, every glance, and every emotion feel natural—not exaggerated.

Featuring high-stakes plot, jaw-dropping action, and Lee Min-ho’s powerful return, Omniscient Reader Viewpoint is poised to thrill both fans of the original novel and moviegoers discovering the story for the first time.
