New character stills have been unveiled featuring Ahn Hyo Seop as Kim Dok-ja, the sole person aware of the ending to a decade-long serialized novel in Omniscient Reader (WT).
The fantasy-action series centers on a novel, serialized for over 10 years, whose world becomes a reality the day its final chapter is released. Kim Dok-ja, portrayed by Ahn Hyo Seop, is the only reader who knows the outcome and must survive in this transformed world alongside the novel’s main character, Yoo Joong-hyuk (played by Lee Min Ho), and his team.
Ahn Hyo Seop, known for his compelling performances across Asia in works like A Time Called You on Netflix, and popular dramas Dr. Romantic 2 and Business Proposal, is receiving significant attention for his strong screen debut as Kim Dok-ja in this highly anticipated project.
The newly released stills offer a glimpse into Kim Dok-ja’s ordinary life as a contract worker at a gaming company, and how he evolves as he faces the challenges of surviving in a world that mirrors the novel he had been following. These images showcase his transformation as he gradually becomes stronger, navigating a reality shaped by the novel’s events.
On his way home from work one evening, Kim Dok-ja feels a bittersweet sense of loss as the serialized story he’s followed for over 10 years comes to an end—only to immediately witness the world he’s read about coming to life around him. With his unique knowledge of the story’s twists and turns, Kim Dok-ja uses this advantage to navigate various challenges in the newly-realized world. Alongside characters like Yoo Joong-hyuk and Yoo Sang-ah (Chae Soo Bin), as well as Lee Hyun-seong (Shin Seung Ho), Jung Hee-won (Nana), Lee Ji-hye (Jisoo), and Lee Gil-yeong (Kwon Eun Seong), the growing bond and synergy between the group is stirring excitement among fans.
Reflecting on his portrayal of Kim Dok-ja, Ahn Hyo-seop shared, “I wanted to show an ordinary Kim Dok-ja that viewers can relate to, and depict a journey where he and others grow together.” He also discussed his preparation for the role, emphasizing the importance of fully understanding the character’s background. “The character’s setting was crucial, so I spent a lot of time researching, engaging in deep conversations with the director, and continuously practicing action scenes.“
Ahn Hyo Seop’s dedication to detail, including his facial expressions, line delivery, and interaction with other characters, promises a fresh and compelling portrayal of Kim Dok-ja’s evolution on screen.
Omniscient Reader will be released in theaters nationwide in July.
