Coming this July, The Grotesque Mansion stars versatile actors in a bizarre and realistic horrifying film.
The team of The Grotesque Mansion recently held a press conference to discuss the movie. Rising director Jo Ba Reun came together with the lead cast.
Sung Joon, Kim Hong Pa, Kim Bo Ra, and Girl’s Day Park So Jin attended the conference.
Director Jo Ba Reun bagged the Fantastic Short Film Award at the 21st Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival with Vibration.

The movie takes place in an abandoned apartment and packed with eerie and chilling stories. It follows the story of a passionate webtoon writer Ji Woo (Sung Joon).
As he finds inspiration for his works, he came across the mysterious Gwanglim Mansion. Ji Woo’s curiosity about the apartment grew when he encounters the caretaker.
With a total of eight episodes, the production team names four stories. It includes “Noise Between Floors,” “Shower Room,” “Drain,” and “Elevator.” These stories will truly convey fear to their viewers.
Meet the “bizarre” characters and casts of the chilling film
After a long time, Sung Joon comes back with a fierce role as Ji Woo. He plays the webtoon writer who uncovers the mysteries of the story.
Sung Joon previously worked on Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, Hyde, Jekyll, Me, and his last 2017 series, Ms. Perfect.
After his discharge from enlistment, the movie becomes a comeback performance for him. The actor also confessed, “I found out that my girlfriend, who I had promised to marry, was pregnant, and I enlisted after filing for marriage.”
In addition, accepts the role because of the unique, “real,” and fun plot. “I thought I could do well because it’s been a long time, but I was able to shoot it comfortably thanks to the director,” Sung Joon added.
Next on the list is a “luxury” actor Kim Hong Pa. This veteran actor portrays the mysterious care keeper. He reveals clues and stories about the abandoned apartment that will lead to finding the secrets.
His acting experiences create expectations for his role. Kim Hong Pa stated, “It’s my first appearance in a horror movie. I’m attracted to the fact that it talks about social issues even though it’s a horror story.
“I wanted to have a good conversation with the audience through the genre of horror, so I said, let’s go.”
Kim Bo Ra transforms as a “fan” of Ji Woo’s webtoon. Da Hye always protects Ji Woo and has a talent for carpentry and machinery.
The actress also stars in an upcoming horror film, Oksu Station Ghost.
She said that she’s curious about how the team executes the stories and episodes.
Kim Bo Ra also shares, “It was interesting because my character Da Hye was unique. There was no difficulty in expressing because it was a bright role. I took it comfortably.”
Lastly, Girl’s Day Park So Jin plays the role of a pharmacist, Sun Hwa. She lives in the Gwanglim Mansion and a secret relationship with a married man.
The actress admitted that she has a fear of watching horror films. When So Jin accepted the role, she said, “I was so scared when I saw the script for The Grotesque Mansion, but I was curious because the book was fun. I was curious as to what it would be like to shoot in real life.”
Furthermore, she confidently invites everyone to see the movie. “Those who like horror, and those who have fear like me, will be able to enjoy it fresh,” So Jin ended.
The Grotesque Mansion sets to release in theatres on the 30th. Viewers can stream it through Olle TV, Seezn, SKY Channel, and Sky Life on the 30th of next month.
