Affirming to be an energizing drama, Jinxed At First lead actors and Director share and reveal their on-set experiences working together.
Finishing their drama presentation on the day of its broadcast, Jinxed At First Na In Woo and Seohyun uncovers their preparations for their role. Praised by Director Yoon Sang Ho for their high energy on the set, Na also hopes to win the next KBS Best Couple Award with his co-star.
K-Drama First Look: “Jinxed At First” Opens Up An Interesting World That Relies On Luck
Jinxed At First follows the story of a goddess of luck, Lee Seul-bi (Seohyun), and the jinx, Goo Soo-kwang (Na In Woo), on their journey to change their fate. Living from two different worlds, the two follows their own destinies and defies their fate.
The Living Rapunzel
Known as SNSD’s Seohyun, Seo Ju Hyun transitioned into acting and has been recently recognized for her performance in Love And Leashes. Bagging the Best New Actress award, the actress hopes viewers remember her portrayal of Lee Seul-bi.
Furthermore, Seohyun compares her character to a Korean version of Rapunzel and further describes Seul-bi;
“[Seul-bi is] not very used to the real world outside, and is full of curiosity. While she is a bit silly, she is a person who can do everything and go up against fate because of love. She is a charming character who is full of courage.”
Like Rapunzel locked in a tower for her magic, Seul-bi and her mother also has the same fate and is manipulated by a rich chaebol family. With these details, the actress kept these in mind as she transforms into Seul-bi.
“She’s a person who has never been to the outside world, so I thought that I should build on and express the kind of feelings and things she may have experienced before turning 19. I thought that my acting would be too one-dimensional if I only paid attention to the exterior details, so I wanted to focus more on these feelings.”
Additionally, Seohyun also sees herself as a growing person like her character;
“In this drama, the character Seul-bi shows a lot of growth. I’ll be thankful if the audience can also feel that I am an actor who is growing as well. It would be great if they can feel good while watching this drama and see it as a ‘healing’ drama. I’d be happy if even one person told me that they enjoyed their time watching Jinxed At First.”
In Woo and Seohyun’s Bright Energy for the Jinx
Moreover, the Jinxed At First is In Woo’s second lead drama where he showcases more of his acting versatility. Playing the role of a character with a dark fate, he approaches Soo-kwang with cheerfulness to synchronize with the drama’s bright tone.
“In the early parts of the script, there was a dark side to the character. But after meeting various characters and caring about their views, I tried to raise the tone and make the scenes more cheerful and interesting. The director also wanted to create a cheerful drama so I took that into consideration. So even though the character keeps experiencing misfortune he doesn’t show it. He’s like a person who has accepted his fate.”
The actor then scores 10 out of 10 for his chemistry with Seohyun which Director Yoon agrees with while commending their energy on set.
“What I enjoyed most was that these two people look like happy youths. So when they come on set and act, they can’t hide the energy that they have. As the bright energy goes around the set, the staff and I can’t help but enjoy ourselves too. It’s like a party thanks to them.”
Additionally, he mentioned how Seohyun perfectly matches Seul-bi and “was as though an actual goddess of fortune fell from the skies!” When asked about any difficulties in creating the drama, Director Yoon reveals;
“The original work is so fun that there is no burden at all. These good actors are also helping to bring these characters to life. Our writers also worked hard to create new engines for the original work. In my view, this ‘plane’ can fly even higher and further as a result. We worked hard to keep it as faithful to the original as possible.”
