JTBC’s new weekend drama officially boots with its recent drama presentation attended by PD Lee Jung Heum and lead stars Lee Young Ae, Kim Hye Jun, Kim Hae Sook, Kwak Sun Young and Jo Hyun Chul.
To run for 12 episodes, Inspector Koo tells the story of Koo Kyung who investigates a murder case presented as a perfect crime. She probes on the crime completely disguised as an accident while investigating an insurance fraud case. Breaking her small screen hiatus, renowned actress Lee Young Ae suits up to the titular role.
PD Lee describes Inspector Koo as a “strange drama”. He hints of unpredictable parts that would interest the viewers. Assuring the viewers of his keen directing, he remarked how he focus on having the story easy to understand.
“There are a lot of points in the drama that are beyond common sense, so I thought about how to make the viewers understand it. Just watch and have fun. I made it so that it was fun for me personally as well.”
Expounding on his work, PD Lee said Inspector Koo to be a not simple comedy. Its strange charm is addicting.
Agreeing with PD Lee’s thoughts, Lee Young Ae relays the uniqueness and interesting story of the drama is the reason why she chose it for her comeback project. She also challenges a role different from her previous ones. “I think I did my best,” the actress said.
Sharing an anecdote of her encounter with older women who told her she looks like Lee Young Ae stresses the radical transformation of Lee as Inspector Koo. She also hopes her new series would be a gift to the viewers.
Conveying how she was able to show her lively and whimsical sides befitting of her age Kim Hye Jun expressed being grateful for working with talented senior actors.
“Actually, when I saw this script, it was very interesting, and I really want to portray K, but I was worried that I could not do it. I took on a challenge and I am learning every moment and having a happy and grateful time.”
Thankful for the opportunity to be in the same drama as Lee Young Ae, Jo Hyun Chul confessed there were surreal moments for him as a junior actor.
“I grew up watching Lee Young-ae’s acting since I was young. Sometimes I felt so moved to be acting with her.”
Teasing fans on what to expect in the series, Kim Hae Sook confidently said, “It’s new, fun, and the scale is huge. I think you’ll see a really new and wonderful drama that includes all genres.”
Kwak Sun Young also discloses details about her latest role. “The character Na Je-hee has a lot to protect, but she faces a crisis. I am a perfectionist, but I am not perfect, so I will get the sympathy of viewers.”
Lastly, Jo Hyun-cheol said, “It’s one of the funniest scripts I’ve ever seen. Working with great actors in such a great script, the synergy is great. I think it will create a new trend. Viewers will realize that I am not talking empty words.”
Inspector Koo will be broadcast on October 30 on JTBC. International fans can watch it on Netflix.
