A new serving of romance is up every Monday and Tuesday on tvN in Serendipity’s Embrace!
Known for its consecutive romantic hits like Marry My Husband, Queen of Tears, and Lovely Runner, tvN is returning with a new eight-part pure romance series. This new drama stars Kim So Hyun, Chae Jong Hyeop, Kim Dasom and Yoon Ji On.
At the online production presentation held on July 16, Director Song Hyun-wook shared his initial reaction to the script. He recalled, “When I first read the script, I couldn’t stop smiling. It was a feeling of excitement that I hadn’t felt in a long time.”
The previously aired Lovely Runner was beloved as a ‘cure for Monday blues’. There is now significant anticipation surrounding Serendipity’s Embrace and whether it will successfully carry on the legacy.
Director Song mentioned, “I also enjoyed watching Lovely Runner. Serendipity’s Embrace is about a person who freezes their feelings of frustration from not being able to find the answer in high school and then thaws them out after 10 years to develop a new love. The answer is in the title. These days, many romance genres are a mix of fantasy and mystery, but ours is the essence of pure romance. The humor was ascending the whole time I was editing.”
Serendipity’s Embrace is a romance that evokes memories of first love, where an awkward and clumsy first love rekindles after ten years, entangled by fate and falling in love again. Based on the Naver webtoon of the same name, the story depicts the process of a 19-year-old boy and girl reuniting as 29-year-old adults intriguingly and cheerfully.
Chae Jong Hyeop takes on the role of Kang Hu-young, a financial planner born into a wealthy family. His character approaches love straightforwardly after reconnecting with his first love, Hong-joo. He expressed his gratitude for the global recognition he has received and explained his decision for his comeback project. He said, “I have also been waiting for my comeback in Korea. I am excited and happy. I was intrigued because it is different from my previous characters who are kind and warm.”
Kim So Hyun portrays Kim Hong-joo, a 10-year veteran animation production PD who has become skeptical about love after experiencing a harsh first love. She described her character as living with eccentricity and innocence. “I like the romance genre, and I am glad to present this new drama at a time when romance is receiving much love. It has a different kind of flirtatiousness from Lovely Runner. Many parts are typical situations every day but exciting. Please look forward to it.”
Kim Dasom plays the role of Kim Hye-ji, Hong-joo’s best friend and high school English teacher, while Yoon Ji On portrays Bang Jun-ho, a novelist who was Hong-joo’s first love.
The eight-part series Serendipity’s Embrace premieres at 8:40 PM on July 22 on tvN, promising to captivate audiences with its heartwarming and nostalgic exploration of rekindled first love.
