Why Her lead actors and director shared their experiences and insights about the series along with their detailed character descriptions.
At the recent press conference of Why Her, Seo Hyun Jin, Hwang In Youp and Bae In Hyuk graced their presence.
The first filming began in November of last year, but unfortunately, the production was not made smoothly due to the long absence of PD Park Soo-jin, the main director, due to the COVID-19 situation and challenges in the filming.
Finally, this series, which had several internal circumstances, is already released after twists and turns today on SBS.
Why Her is a pain-inflicting but thrilling story of Oh Soo-jae. The actress turned into a cold lawyer who has become empty while pursuing only success and has a goal that must achieve. Her mantra is ‘to live on the top, more intensely’.
She meets Gong Chan (Hwang In Youp), a law school student who is not afraid of anything to protect her.
Seo Hyun Jin’s Challenging Role
The actress portrays the role of Oh Soo-jae, a star lawyer and the youngest partner lawyer at TK law firm. She is a lawyer who allowed herself to be swallowed by her regrets and soon enough, has become poisoned.
She transforms into a fierce character with a personality full of poison, stained with scars on her cold face, and plays black smoke.
At the online press conference, Seo Hyun Jin revealed the reason for choosing this role, she said,
“People cannot always be kind and there are not only good people. I think there are times when people make the wrong choice even if they know it. I think I wanted to do something different. It was a new change and I wanted to have a different tone. I got a lot of help from good seniors.”
In regards to her external transformation, she revealed that she worked hard not only for acting, but the fierce role should also be partnered with a screaming juristic external perspective, Seo explained.
“The director prefers clothes that fit. To express a woman who does not let go of herself, who is confined in clothes and goes to war, she mainly wore a fitted suit, and also changed the lip color and eyeliner.”
Hwang In Youp’s Dream Role
The ralented plays the role of Gong-chan, a law school student who reaches out to Seo Hyun Jin, who has fallen into the abyss. He shared his experience when he grasped the script for the first time, his words only indicate that he is fully immersed in the work.
“When I first read the script, the title touched my heart, I always wanted to play the narratives of the past and present that Gong-chan has. I actually became calmer and less talkative because I did it.”
About his first meeting with Seo Hyun Jin, he expressed elatedness.
“I thought it was really beautiful. Personally, I had a desire to act with a senior someday. I was very happy at the thought of acting together. I was nervous enough but my seniors took care of me comfortably. I respected her as a partner, so I am happy while acting and learning while doing it.”
Veteran actor Heo Joon Ho suits up to the role of Choi Tae-guk, chairman of TK Law Firm, and exudes intense charisma.
Interestingly, he reveals Seo Hyun Jin was the decisive reason for choosing the work.
“My family liked Seo Hyun-jin so much. I did it because my family actively suggested it. Also, when I was meeting with the writer and the director, I decided to choose it because I thought that it was a work where I could see the difference between healthy greed and bad greed with my own interpretation.”
In response, Seo praised the seasoned actor as she learned a lot from him.
“I learned a lot while working with (sunbaenim). He made the scene high quality by acting. His overwhelming presence that comes from the physical interaction was also awe-inspiring.”
Bae In Hyuk, the youngest, takes on the role of Choi Yoon-sang, a law school student who has lived a life of hiding his loneliness with his harshness.
“It’s a character I’ve never played before, so I wanted to try it. And when will I ever love Seo Hyun-jin again and live as Heo Jun-ho’s son again? I chose it because I thought it was an opportunity that would never come again.”
The confident remarks of the actors continued, saying that it is a work that can catch the eyes and ears of the viewers in which they will be witnessing another upcoming mystery courtroom drama that will stir confusion about the characters in the long run, and that time passes quickly after seeing it.
It is a notable series that leaves the question, what kind of drama report card Why Her will achieve. The series premieres on June 3. International fans can watch it on Viu.
