Netflix Confirms “Mantis” a New Spin-Off from the “Kill Boksoon” Universe

Mantis

Netflix has officially announced the production of Mantis, an action-packed film that centers on Mantis, a top-tier assassin who returns to the chaotic world of contract killing after taking a vacation.

Upon his return, Mantis finds himself entangled in a fierce competition for supremacy, facing off against Jae-yi, a fellow trainee and rival, and Dok-go, a legendary retired killer.

Mantis (WT) is a spin-off set in the same assassin-for-hire universe as the 2023 Netflix film Kill Boksoon, which premiered at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival. While Kill Boksoon focuses on Gil Boksoon’s struggle to balance her dual life as a single mother and a contract killer, Mantis (WT) promises to deliver intense action as Mantis, Jae-yi, and Dok-go pursue their ambitions in this deadly industry. The film is co-written by Byun Sung-hyun, who skillfully depicted the grim contract killer world in Kill Boksoon, and director Lee Tae-sung, who makes his feature directorial debut with this project after serving as an assistant director on films like Kill Boksoon and The King.

Im Si Wan (Unlocked, Emergency Declaration) stars as Han-ul, known as Mantis, a top assassin working for MK Ent. Previously mentioned in Kill Boksoon as having “gone on vacation,” Mantis now returns to a disordered and competitive industry, seeking new opportunities. Yim Si-wan, praised for his stellar performance in The Merciless, is set to bring depth to this character created by Byun Sung-hyun.

Park Gyu Young (Sweet Home, Celebrity) plays Jae-yi, a highly skilled assassin who was ousted from MK Ent. after falling out of favor with her superiors. Jae-yi, an old acquaintance of Mantis, harbors complex emotions towards him due to his extraordinary abilities. Park Gyu-young is expected to showcase her versatility by portraying this multifaceted character and diving into full-scale action scenes.

Additionally, Jo Woo Jin (Narco-Saints, Alienoid) takes on the role of Dok-go, a retired legendary assassin and one of MK Ent.’s founding members. Now the CEO of MK Ent. following Cha Min-kyu’s death, Dok-go is determined to bring Mantis back into the fold. The film boasts a stellar cast, heightening anticipation for this latest addition to the intriguing assassin universe.

Produced by SEE AT Film Co., LTD, the powerhouse behind films such as Kill Boksoon, Love and Leashes, and Kingmaker, Mantis (WT) is set to captivate audiences with its thrilling storyline and dynamic characters.
