Curated tours and contemporary artworks inspired by the show to feature in three precincts with significant cultural heritage – Chinatown, Katong/Joo Chiat and Little India
The final episodes of iQiyi’s first Southeast Asian Original, The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang, will air on iQiyi International app and iQ.com this week.
The spooky adventures of Xia Dong Qing (Lawrence Wong) and Zhao Li (Qi Yuwu) in The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang, which has kept international viewers thrilled over the past one month, will continue to excite fans through iQiyi’s extended partnership with STB.
This latest partnership aims to encourage locals and future visitors to explore Singapore’s unique cultural precincts and follows an earlier partnership inked between iQiyi and STB in December 2020 to jointly market Singapore as a destination of choice for travelers over the next three years.
Promoting Singapore Heritage through The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang
Fans can discover Singapore’s rich culture and heritage with The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang wall murals and specially curated tours in Chinatown, Little India and Katong/Joo Chiat. They can also look out for the special TikTok filters created by iQiyi and STB, featuring the three main characters from the series and key landmarks at these cultural precincts.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Singapore Tourism Board to showcase Singapore’s heritage through The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang. As the only Asian streaming platform available worldwide, iQiyi is invested in telling local Asian stories and bringing them to an international audience. We’re glad to bring to life parts of our show to Singapore fans and believe they will enjoy the specially curated tours and the murals painted by homegrown artistes, especially after watching all 36 episodes for free on our website or app,” said Kuek Yu-Chuang, iQiyi’s Vice President of International Business.”
Lim Shoo Ling, Director, Arts & Cultural Precincts, Singapore Tourism Board said, “We are pleased that iQiyi has chosen Singapore as the backdrop for their first Southeast Asian Original drama series. Our precincts, with their vibrant culture and heritage, are perfect settings for storytelling. By bringing these stories to life with tours, real-life artwork and augmented reality filters, we hope to encourage locals and future visitors to rediscover what our cultural precincts have to offer.”
The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang Wall Murals and STB Precinct Tours
Look forward to three wall murals and exciting immersive tours inspired by The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang in the cultural precincts of Chinatown, Little India and Katong/Joo Chiat.
Chinatown
Discover the lore of the Dragon King from Episode 15: The Fifth Master《五公子》of the drama series through a wall mural at Chinatown Food Street. Created by Singaporean street artist TraseOne, the mural combines elements of Chinese culture, traditional folklore and features the characters Xia Dong Qing, Zhao Li and the famed Dragon King.
Fans can also join Andros, a fictional journalist with magical yin yang eyes like Xia Dong Qing, on the Yin Yang Soul of Chinatown tour to hear the unique stories of Chinatown, and how traditional beliefs and rituals still play a major role in ultra-modern Singapore. Participants can also sample a soup similar to the Dragon King’s broth from the drama series.
The Lady in Red’s beautiful saree in Episodes 6 and 7: The Dormitory Spirit《宿舍凶灵》is just one of many important aspects of Indian culture, captured through Singaporean artist DEM’s (Adam Wang of DIVISION HQ) mural at Tekka Place.
The spray-painted wall mural celebrates both Little India’s colorful heritage and mystical elements of the show, including the Travelling Puppeteer (depicted by Jeanette Aw) and Xia Dong Qing and Zhao Li.
Little India
The Doll tour brings fans on an interactive journey around Little India to help locate the scattered “body parts” of the Japanese doll from Episodes 32 and 33: Human Puppet 《人偶》, in order to free the doll’s “spirit”. To get these “body parts”, participants must race against time to complete specific tasks given by The Ferryman.
Katong/Joo Chiat
Qing Qing’s exquisite Nyonya kebaya and accessories in Episode 3: Nightmares《鬼上床》find a home in Katong/Joo Chiat, through Ink and Clog Studio’s Peranakan-inspired wall mural in the precinct. The mural draws from the rich Peranakan heritage of Katong/Joo Chiat and features Xia Dong Xing, Zhao Li, and the spirit of a Peranakan woman from the show.
The Ghost of Rumah Katong tour brings fans on a tour of Katong/Joo Chiat and Peranakan culture through the eyes of Qing Qing, a true-blue Nyonya. Explore the Katong Antique House, discover classic Peranakan kuehs, and find out more about Qing Qing’s favorite places in the precinct when she was still alive.
