A sprightly story filled with encouraging messages about family bond, career dreams and love relationships, Was it Love is best watched with friends and loved ones! The bet is on! Who would you root for Ae Jeong? The director? The investor? The actor? Or the teacher?
Realistic love stories have seen quite a few numbers in the recent years in K-Dramaland. Something tacitly acknowledged in this generation which regard “true love” to be not entirely immune to failure. Was it Love threads on the same theme with a female lead who has felt the good and bad times of being in love.
At the center of the story is Noh Ae Jeong (Song Ji Hyo), mother to Noh Ha Nee. She is one lucky woman, who only dreams of happy times with her mom and daughter. Surviving a career breakdown, she turns the table and even received love blessings from four equally amazing men. On top of that, her life-long dream of becoming a film producer is finally seeing light.
Strong Woman Ae Jeong
Living with her mom and daughter, Ae Jeong has to thank a reliable best friend who let them stay in her house, even when her rent falls behind frequently. As a single mom, she endured a few part-time jobs to sustain the expenses while taking care of her child.
Fortunately, she lands a regular job and through hard work, she has climbed up to a producer position at Thumb film company. Unaware that the CEO has done some shady business, she and assistant Choi Hye Jin confront the possibility of the company being closed for good. Ae Jeong further learns that she has signed a surety contract to Nine Capital, and its boss Koo Pa Do (Kim Min Joon), does not look like someone who would accept an apology.
But luck emerges to bring hope to Ae Jeong as they find a copyright document binding a work of famous writer Cheon Ok Man (Son Ho Joon) to the company. Gambling with the little luck she had, she parlays a film production and asks CEO Koo to invest. Impressed by her tenacity, CEO Koo agrees only if she can sign up the writer and actor Ryu Jin to the project.
The men who likes Ae Jeong
It turns out that Cheon Ok Man is Ae Jeong’s ex-boyfriend Oh Dae Oh. Their breakup appeared to be bitter, so Ae Jeong struggles to convince him. Both obviously have unanswered questions for the relationship fallout. Albeit adamant to work with his ex-lover, Oh Dae Oh finally acquiesces and even made Ryu Jin (Song Jong Ho) on board the project.
Another man from Ae Jeong’s past, Oh Yeon Woo (Koo Ja Sung) also returns to her present life. He is also Ha Nee’s homeroom teacher. His unrequited love to Ae Jeong traces back to their college lives. After knowing she is spoken for, he did not confess how he felt.
Braving a chance to claim the love he longs for, he finally professed his love intention, but his noona is yet to process his love confession. Ryu Jin, who has marked Ae Jeong as his “one that got away”, seems going for a chance he let go before to give way for his friend, Dae Oh.
But, Dae Oh has also declared that he still loves Noh Ae Jeong; just as CEO Koo is showing signs of affection to the clueless PD, loved by many because of her inner beauty.
Was it Love Mid-Series Peak Points + Musings
Halfway to the series, aside from feeling envious about Noh Ae Jeong’s love fate, its main conflict has been established. That is – who will win Ae Jeong’s heart? Apart from that, details to her break up with Dae Oh as well as Ha Nee’s birth secret are expected to be unfurled, down the second half of the series.
Spicing up the love entanglement among the main cast is the introduction of Joo A Rin (Kim Da Som), who has long harbored admiration to Dae Oh. Notably, the noona romance raised by Yeon Woo is swaying my heart in a way that I want Ae Jeong to do the same. *wink
With Ae Jeong focused to achieve her life-long dream of producing films, I haven’t felt her character has realized the hearts she will soon break. The scattered behind-the-scene of the boys’ unrequited love histories with Ae Jeong have been divulged in the last eight episodes. Seemingly raising votes to their why-I-deserve-Ae-Jeong-banner.
That being said, we are up to witness a race among the boys, as they stake their claim towards Ae Jeong. To be honest, nothing much is happening in the story. It has a clear cut conflict, smooth-flowing character developments and neatly-placed twists and surprises. Hence, we are just waiting for everything to fall in the right places and all the answers to the questions still left unanswered.
