Heading for a mirthful historical series, Secret Royal Inspector Joy held a pleasant drama presentation recently.
Set in the Joseon dynasty, Secret Royal Inspector Joy is a comedic, historical period drama that centers around an intelligent but lazy secret agent played by Ok Taecyeon, and a woman, played by Kim Hye-Yoon, whose beliefs are way ahead of her times and she seeks to get out of her unhappy marriage to search for her happiness.
Attended by Ok Taecyeon and Kim Hye Yoon, the two lead a cheerful couple that will run an investigative show in Secret Royal Inspector Joy.
Also gracing his presence at the press conference was Director Yoo Jong Sun. Providing details about his new work, he shared how he enjoyed reading the script when he first read it.
“If you look at the story of each character, they weren’t supposed to be pleasant and bright. But their attitude towards the world is clean, candid, outspoken, and admirable. Moreover, their cool, pure and brave attitude to face reality drives the comedy points of the series.”
A Quirky Investigation Story
Ok Taecyeon, who plays the role of Ra Yi-eon, relays his first encounter with the script was at the time he was filming Vincenzo. At that time, he was consumed by his character’s emotional load. Thus, knowing the characters of the series and the story’s intention to heal and bring joy, he decided to work on it.
Eloquently describing his new role, he conveyed Ra Yi-eon to have an interesting mix. Sometimes he is cool, but there are also opportunities for him to grow. His various colors and surprising thought process is engrossing.
“I feel like I have found my ‘real character’. It feels like Ok Taecyeon from the Joseon Dynasty.”
He also quips adorably about receiving compliments for his first historical series while wearing hanbok.
Kim Hye-yoon, who plays Kim Jo-yi, recounts how she had a short stint of filming historical drama in Extraordinary You. At that time, she had an inkling to try the genre.
Fortunately, she was given a chance and with a character seemingly written with her in mind.
Beamingly introducing her character, she remarked how Jo-yi is a confident person unafraid to search and claim her happiness. She adds how visionary Jo-yi is with her keen mind in catching clues while investigating.
Lead Couple’s Synergy
Ok Taecyeon and Kim Hye Yoon will work together for the first time through Secret Royal Inspector Joy. The two have only warm words to each other. Taecyeon said, “We’ve been filming for about 6 months, and we get along really well. In fact, Jo-yi is an attractive character, but Kim Hye Yoon made her even lovelier.”
Praising her male lead for his bright energy, Kim has pleasant and cheerful memories while working with Ok Taecyeon. She affirms how he was the mood maker on the set while filming.
Concurring with the actors, PD Yoo invited viewers to expect an energizing series.
“It was very enjoyable to watch the actors wear their own charming colors. I hope that viewers will enjoy those arresting charms.”
