With its first two episodes, Choi Woo Shik and Kim Da Mi transformed into high school students and had a love-hate relationship. After their break up, they met again after five years settled with their own lives.

Our Beloved Summer Opening Week Story
Wearing their high school uniforms, Choi-Woong (Choi Woo Shik) and Gook Yeon-Soo are the most opposite students in their entire school. Yeon-Soo excels in her academics and aims for a successful life. Meanwhile, Choi-Woong ranks last in his class and wants a simple life.
One day, a production team asked to film them to see the life of a top student and the “worst” student. At first, Choi-Woong didn’t want to do it but ended up doing it.
During their filming days, Choi-Woong hates Yeon-Soo so much because she doesn’t know how to socialize. He tried to be friends with Yeon-Soo, but it didn’t work out. The film was full of their arguing moments and reflects how much they hate each other.
The Break-Up
Despite all the hateful moments that Choi-Woong and Yeon-Soo had, there came a time when they eventually fell in love with each other. Having different personalities is not easy, but they meet halfway.
When they were still together, Yeon-Soo always asks Choi-Woong of all her “what-ifs.” She always asks Choi-Woong how much he likes her, but Choi-Woong doesn’t say anything at all.
All of a sudden, Yeon-Soo decided to break up with Choi-Woong. At first, he tried to settle the problem but she was firm on her decision. Choi-Woong said that they should not meet again because if that happens, he would spray water and salt at her.
Separate Lives
In the premiere week episodes, Choi-Woong’s and Yeon-Soo’s lives years after were shown. Yeon-Soo works in a company but wasn’t satisfied with what she attained. Meanwhile, Choi-Woong became a very popular artist but decided to hide his identity.
Yeon-Soo lives with her grandmother and struggles with her work but still tries to live day by day. While Choi-Woong is busy with his artworks he still manages to live a simple life even though he’s quite popular.
Furthermore, Yeon-Soo needed to find a known artist to collaborate with their company. Yeon-Soo researched that Ko-O, the artist she’s looking for, doesn’t include any people in his artworks because people do change over time. He also hides his true identity.
Yeon-Soo remembered something and had a hunch on who this artist is.
The Reunion
When Yeon-Soo feels that Choi-Woong is the mystery artist, she immediately went to Choi-Woong’s house. When she click the doorbell, he opened the door with a confused face and closed it again.
Choi-Woong opened the door again and sprayed watered and salt to Yeon-Soo’s face. Ji-Woong told Yeon-Soo that Choi-Woong has been practicing this moment to Eun-Ho for years.
Later on, Yeon-Soo told Choi-Woong her business proposal but he’s blatantly not interested. She chides how he’s still acting immature.
At the end of the opening week episode, the two were trapped in the elevator and it seems that Choi-Woong got serious and asked Yeon-Soo something about the past.
Our Beloved Summer Opening Week Musings
Before the premiere, I was already excited to watch Our Beloved Summer because I find the plot interesting. I just love the natural acting of Kim Da-Mi and the way she was able to give off a strong character.
Meanwhile, Choi Woo-Shik also did well as Choi-Woong. The dream of Choi-Woong who wants to have a simple life resonated in me. Their love-hate relationship is so fun to watch because we can see how Choi-Woong always accepts his defeat when arguing with Yeon-Soo.
It also put me on a heart-fluttering moment in the part wherein Ji-Woong saw the other part of the film. The part where teenage Yeon-Soo and Choi-Woong are having fun with each other’s company.
I believe that Yeon-Soo keeps asking Choi-Woong how much he loves her to know Choi-Woong’s sincerity. I thought that Choi-Woong didn’t meet the expectation of Yeon-Soo when it comes to love assurance. Being a logical person, maybe Yeon-Soo always waits for the moment that Choi-Woong would say that he truly loves her.
I guess even though they have different personalities, they can make their relationship work if they can be more open with each other. This time, I hope that Yeon-Soo and Choi-Woong would not rush things and take time to heal from the past.
